• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I read the reddit that had not much but that APRS worked. I'm looking for actual instals any models ; at least 100W HF rig, Screwdriver ant. Amp as bonus info: trying ot see if "high" RF messes with the operation of the car and obviuoulsy just power usage (how much does it kill range.) Ty.

Don't know what model you have but a quick search on the S says it has 100 kwh 400 volt battery pack! That is crazy powerful! That is not something to mess with. What does Tesla say about installing accessories? I seem to recall Tesla dropped AM radios because all the advanced motor controllers were causing a lot on noise on AM. If that is the case I would think it would mess up HF too. Maybe before spending any time or money on this take a portable AM radio with you. Tune it between stations so it just has white noise and take the car for a spin. This may give you some ideas what HF might sound like.

Excellent advice above! EV's are RFI nightmares with all their control systems and modules.

And the manufacturers don't want to spend the money to deal with it and will rely on Part 15.

There is a lot of info in that thread that should help the OP a lot. I did have a little trouble with the link - try logging into QRZ first then paste the link.

I did like the comment "I run portable a lot in a park about 200ft from a semi-busy road. Every time a Tesla goes by (which is VERY frequently in LA) the noise floor in my receiver goes up 3-5 S units."

There is also a lot of info on how to add/hookup accessory battery.

I wouldn’t ride in one much less own one.

Ran into a man at HRO-Dallas said he got HF to work in his daughters Tesla.

I did ride in one, thought it rode great but I have always been a tough sell. Not buying any E.V. anytime soon.
