"X-Ray 950 to X-Ray 5 Mike Romeo on Net 3"

165.2375 (ct 100.0 Hz), monitored in San Antonio.

X-Ray 950 (or Lima 950) is March AFB air support (according to my notes), and X-Ray 5MR (also Omaha 5MR) is N805MR, a de Havilland Bombardier-8 (Dash 8) belonging to DHS.

Now about 20 min later...

"X-Ray 5 Mike Romeo to Charlie 100 for a radio check."

165.2375 (ct 100.0 Hz) in San Antonio.

Both get on and chat about how good it sounds on Net 3. Then some OTAR, then some 5x5's.

Guys I have a GREAT Federal repeater I've been monitoring for sometime now. I originally submitted it to the Database as US Forest Service + Dallas Maintenance. The frequency is 171.4750 PL: 114.8 and after really listening to it over the weekend, I believe this to be just one of Many 171.4750 Repeaters used by USFS. The one here I am beginning to believe is actually located in Cooke or Possibly Montague county. Maybe even Wise Co.

This repeater is the Primary Repeater for the CADDO NAT'L GRASSLANDS which are layers from Decauter to East of Bonham to NW of Ladonia. Now I am certain this repeater is not in Fannin Co. But what I am hearing seems to be FEDERAL WILDLIFE GAME ENFORCEMENT And Park Operations at the Decauter park site. Hunting season must have begun for Deer and Quail this weekend as these guys were all over the place chasing Antler sizes and reciting Hunting laws and regulations. They even stated that Quail hunting WAS allowed inside "THE CADDO"

I'll tell ya folks, if you want to hear some REALLY good "Rack Reports" this is the frequency.

I wanted to help the Admins better understand this frequency and What I'm hearing, and Maybe even get Tom to listen to it since he's over that way and see if we can isolate and confirm this repeater. I'm really convinced its in the Cooke, Wise, Montague area because of the traffic coming off of it. I'm even hearing Game calls by dispatchers to County roads inside Cooke co. And several mentions to Enforcement officials to go eat in "Valley View"

Lastly, I have heard Texas Parks & Wildlife Wildlife Enforcement call signs on this, particularly at night. So y'all might want to slap this puppy in your Scanners and give it a listen. I get 3 bars steady over here. And I really am doubting the tower is in Dallas. And I really believe this tower is part of a Daisey Chain link system.

So there you have it ...

I have it as "LBJ National Grasslands" in my notes. Not sure if it's related, but I started hearing 419.375 with a PL 114.8 on Friday. No voice, but automated repeater ID, and some silent key ups.

LBJ National Grassland has had a repeater on 171.475/172.225 PL 114.8 in Decatur for a long time.
I can't hear it from home and don't know anything about the areas farther east.

I remember TPWD applied for a license on those freqs several years ago but it was denied
ULS Application - Public Safety Pool, Conventional - 0002723425 - TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE DEPT

Maybe they got approval from the DOI for those frequencies.

In addition to Decatur there is also a repeater on this frequency at the Lake Crockett work center in northeast Fannin Co. There is also some kind of relay or repeater in Sherman on 415.225 / 103.5 which repeats 171.475. It appears that this is a relay where the Decatur group can communciate with the Fannin Co units.

I thought so too that there was a State License for 171.475 a long time ago. I remember some old maps which showed the 170MHz licenses. I'm surprised you can't hear it in Mineral Wells as I'm getting it 2 to 3 bars here.

Ben and Mike

I've got those UHF sets plugged in and scanning now - Thanks. I heard yesterday two units talking and one said the other was being whipped out by another repeater. Which led me to believe this was a "daisy chain" or "Linked" System. Oh and Ben, yes your correct, its LBJ National Grasslands Park, but the Caddo National Grasslands.I did some reading on their out-of-date website.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Max back in the early 90's before the days of cellphones me and another guy took an overnight canoe trip down Bois 'd Arc creek in the national grasslands. I programmed this repeater into my police handheld, in case of emergencies, since there were no other communications that far out. This channel was also programmed in the MOTOROLA Spectra mobile units at the PD. It wasn't monitored routinely but I had alerted one of the SGT's to be listening and we did talk on it "after hours" one night to obtain a weather report since it had started raining.

165.6875

Normally in San Antonio I hear key-ups on 165.6875MHz that decode a CT of 100.0Hz. This is a known CBP frequency.

I've never heard any voice on it.

Today, there are multiple repeater key-ups, and about every 3rd or fourth key-up has an MDC squelch tail. The MDC squelch tail isn't on every key-up, and might come consecutively on some, but isn't present all the time. Still decoding a CT of 100.0Hz, no voice, just key-ups. The cycle is about 10-15 instantaneous key-ups, lasting about 3 seconds each (after the repeater tail ceases), and goes on for about 45 seconds of each minute. Then a pause of maybe 10 seconds, then goes right back in to the sequence of key-ups.

This cycle started about 1300 CST today, and hasn't stopped since (about 2 hours). I'm not sure why this is starting now, but I'm getting tired of listening to it (but fear that if I do a temp l/o I might miss something).

On further listening, I believe the 419.375 PL114.8 that I heard was an image of one of the KXAS/TV 5 news repeaters. I briefly heard "chopper 5" on it yesterday.

In San Antonio @ 1138 CST (350.025MHz):

"Omaha 2CC, HAMMER, test Blue-3 on new transmitter."

"Nothing heard 2CC, I'll try to reach you on COTHEN."

Omaha 2CC is N752CC, a Cessna 550 Citation II. Did anybody in the U.S. happen to hear the contact on COTHEN?

Another try at 1142 looking for 2CC.

HAMMER is giving 2CC info on a plane that used a corporate credit card to buy 140 gallons fuel. No pilot name was given at the time. HAMMER is ascertaining whether 2CC is going to proceed to follow the plane to Corpus Christi. All the information was passed on the HAMMER by the Pecos FBO.

Interesting Mike, Since the SO cars haven't been reprogrammed in several years I wonder if its still there? I'll have a looksy later this week.

Side note: I got to meet the Emergency Manager which took your place a few weeks ago (C. Waggstaff), Really nice guy. he came out to out First annual Radio in the park with the Ham club.

Ben - Thanks for that, I'll remove it from my scanner.

That was in the PD radios. I understand they removed all those "extra" channels a few years after I left and I assume they have switched to another model since they are using digital mode some.

The input to Net 3 should be 166.5875 [100.0]. If someone can confirm that please submit an update to Galveston County. I'm assuming this repeater is down that way. Net 1 is used in Houston (same output, 166.4375 input).

Just out of curiosity, Does anyone have a NET vs. Frequency vs. Use/Location document for DHS with or without CBP assignments?
