This is what is changing in a nutshell. The old wideband channels with 127.3 tone will not be used after Dec 31, 2012 due to narrowbanding. The standard nationwide channel plan will be implemented with two Texas-specific frequencies.

TEXAS AIR 2 is removed from the plan.

VTAC33 - VTAC38 added to the plan. These are the VHF temporary repeater channels that were added to the national channel plan a couple years ago.

Texas Law 1 and Texas Law 2 will be reconfigured to TEXTAC01 and TEXTAC02. Apparently mobiles will now talk to base stations on 155.370.

TEXTAC01 will be a mobile-to-mobile calling channel.
TEXTAC02 will be used as a Primary Aircraft Calling Channel between state/federal aircraft and a base station. It also will serve as a backup to VCALL10 as a calling channel. The national narrowband interoperable channel, VCALL10, will be primary over TEXTAC02 as a calling channel.

Old Wideband Ch Freq Tone --> New Narrowband Ch Freq Tone
TEXAS LAW 1 154.950 CSQ --> TEXTAC01 154.950 156.7
TEXAS LAW 2 155.370 CSQ --> TEXTAC02 155.370 156.7
TEXAS LAW 3 155.475 127.3 --> VLAW31 155.475 156.7
TEXAS FIRE 1 154.280 127.3 --> VFIRE21 154.280 156.7
TEXAS FIRE 2 154.265 127.3 --> VFIRE22 154.265 156.7
TEXAS FIRE 3 154.295 127.3 --> VFIRE23 154.295 156.7
TEXAS MED 1 155.340 127.3 --> VMED28 155.340 156.7

This is a draft document so things could change. Keep an eye on the web sites in the first two posts for the final version.

They changed the channel labels for 154.950 and 155.370 again.
Use what is in the current document not what I posted in Post #3 of this thread.

I also find it interesting that one of the state-wide Incident control channels, 8TAC97D (853.35) is used as a control control channel on Montgomery County's TxWARN site -and- VTAC13 (158.7375) is used as Greenville PD Dispatch channel w/some encryption. I'm sure there are plenty of examples.

I think there are more examples out there off the top of my head, as you said, but I think they are relying on the sub-audible tones to filter out the non-interop traffic. Perhaps they don't want to eliminate all those frequencies from the APCO pool?

Greenville PD is using 158.7375 with NAC 293 as their primary Dispatch channel. Montgomery P25 side has 853.35 as a control channel. Both preclude the use as an InterOp channel.

In the FCC rules (limitation footnotes 80-83 in the public safety frequency pool 90.20) it says that stations licensed on the national interoperability channels and channels adjacent to the them can continue operating secondarily to any interoperability communications. That meanse if Greenville (or anybody else) causes interference to somebody else's incident communications, the people recieving interference can complain to the local FCC engineer and the FCC can order the offending stations off the air until the incident is over.

Here is an interesting link
http://txrc.region49.org/2012 SCIP Conf Docs/
This is from the first document on the above link...
All Texas state agencies have agreed to collectively
migrate their “operable” and “interoperable” channels
from wideband to narrowband on June 1, 2012.
All state agencies will still maintain the current wideband
interoperable channels until December 31, 2012, at
which time the narrowband interoperable channels will
be used exclusively.

I have a question about these freq. tones. Are these receive tones or Xmit to repeater tones? I've had my current digital scanner about a year now, and can hear the TX Law (former intercity) channels and the fire channels, and they now seem to be on a repeater. Am I correct? I've been away from this board awhile and have a lot of catching up to do! I hear the Midland ham repeater and hear a lot of discussion about some of the changes and wonder how it's going to effect those of us who listen to scanners regularly.

Thanks, Tom. Yeah...it's been a while, all right. I hear B. John and his bunch talking, and you know he has to stay on top of everything. Bunch some of the technical stuff he talks about just goes over my head. Whatever happened to the good ol' days and 37.180???
