I assume you mean the game wardens and not the state parks. I haven't heard game wardens or anybody else use the TPWD repeaters in several years. Around here they mainly talk to DPS dispatch on DPS frequencies and occasionally talk to eachother on Ch. 5D (151.355 simplex NAC 111).

What are their call numbers so I know that's them?
As far as I can tell game wardens use 4 digit numbers. It sounds like the fist digit is the region, the second digit is the district and the last two digits are individual officers. See this map for regions and districts. In Taylor County they probably use 63xx callsigns.

I've heard lots of traffic on the State Park freqs. I was talking to one of the Game Wardens a couple years back and they we're using low-band and VHF. Not sure if that's still the case or if they've changed over to VHF completely.

What? TPWD has been on VHF high band for many decades.

Then I've gotta be doing something wrong. I've never heard anything on any of their frequencies. And I know they assist on traffic stops around here.

If they primarily use VHF then maybe the low band unit was for some other purpose and not their primary communication. I don't know what it's purpose served I just know he had a low band and a VHF in the truck. I guess it could've been for another department or some other purpose. Not sure.

We use either the county radio or DPS. In most areas with trunking available to state LE (eg; Houston, RGV, MRG, Collin, etc) we use those. You won't hear much on our repeater channels. Some Parks are not very active on their radios, and some are. The small parks use direct channels, and large parks usually have their own repeaters (eg; San Angelo State Park)….

As for callsigns, its based on regions and districts like DPS uses. DPS and TPWD have their regions and districts divided up differently. I'm in San Angelo, which is Region 1, District 2. As an example, my callsign is 1230.

Hope you find this info helpful.....

Austin is the last surviving TPWD dispatch center (LaPorte was closed last year) ... and it could be going away as well... stay tuned....

I have lived in Waco since 1998 and I have only heard the Game Wardens key up one time. If you like, watch an episode of Lone Star Law and see for yourself. Typically, they use cell phones.

They seem to mostly use DPS and local radio systems. However I do catch them occasionally on 151.355 NAC 111 simplex.

Wow, I thought they would be showing up on TxWarn since there are identified talk groups for the Houston area.

There are on TXWARN using talkgroup 3033. There are others listed but I haven't heard them on the others. They use DPS and local systems as well.
