Hello everyone-I just took on the task of manually programming an old Uniden BC396XT for a friend. How do I find the TGID/DEC numbers for the agencies? I was able to get 10 channels programmed but it's silent. I think I need these numbers. Thanks to all.

What system are you trying to listen to?

It is impossible to help without knowing exactly what you are trying to monitor. There are conventional frequencies and trunked systems. If you are looking for TGID's, it is a trunked system. Without knowing which agencies you are trying to monitor, we are not able to provide a link to the system with the TGID's in the database. There are different types of trunked systems. The sites you use depend upon your location. You must have the correct frequencies entered into each site. It would help to know your friend's city and county to determine the best site or sites. The BCD396XT cannot receive P25 Phase 2, ProVoice, DMR, or NXDN. Conventional frequencies and talkgroups may be encrypted. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to your question.

Ahhh-got it. I'm manually programming digital non-trunked frequencies in the 453-484 MHZ range. My assigned radio for work is a Motorola APX4000 and its a P25 Phase 2 radio so thats why this lil 396 isn't getting anything. All of the LE agencies in our area (SE Massachusetts) use this radio. A friend had this scanner given to him with no paperwork or anything. Thanks to all for your time and help.

Conventional (non-trunked) frequencies do not use sites or talkgroups. You just enter the frequency. Conventional P25 frequencies are always Phase 1 and can be received by the BCD396XT. Even if a radio is P25 Phase 2 capable, P25 conventional frequencies are still always Phase 1. Talkgroups on a P25 Phase 2 capable trunked system can be Phase 1 or Phase 2. We cannot determine if your scanner will monitor what you want without knowing exactly what you want to monitor. Here is a link to the manual for the BCD396XT:
