To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all. im currently converting the TGID #'s for a motorola system in brazoria county ,tx from DEC to HEX using this website http://mjw.com/scanner/convert.htm . so far there are a few TGID's that come back as 0000 in HEX format. My pro-97 displays the TGID correctly and its setup properly to do so, i cant seem to understand if this is an error or correct converstion of the couple of TGID's. i am useing "Convert from Uniden" Option under "Motorola Type II Formats" of the website. am i useing the wrong Option Formula or is this correct?? here is some of what ive been converting, please tell me if you come up with the same that i have.

The last ID on your list although not 0 comes back wrong. There is something wrong with the conversion routine, or the format of what you feed it. The ones that come back all 0's have a 0 in the leading digit.

Why bother...just use the calculator in Windows, which you can switch between HEX and DEC mode...so simple.

These work whether I put in the leading 0 or not. Maybe you put in a leading "o"? That does return a zero, which it should.

Hmmm, i enterd them how they apeared on my pro-97. some show up with a leading 0 , infact quite a few do but quite a few dont either, i also thought though that the leading 0 could be the problem. this is a confusing the hell out of me :?

Im thinking "go back and convert all that have leading 0 without the 0" even though it shows up like that on the pro-97. but how do i know this is right?? :?

Without actually doing all the conversions, all I can say is that they look within the ballpark.

Now the question: Why do you want to enter the Hex values? It doesn't make any difference which set of values you enter - the scanner sees them all as binary anyway.

Why is a fair question with a simple answer, learn everything i can, it never hurts , i also see hex to be more simplier to look at then looking at a list of numbers like DEC. its not going to really matter as far as getting more information out of the TRS i got it from or help me figure out each TGID's name. i just wanted to know how-to and do it so ill know from now on with motorola systems.

OK, one thing I forgot to mention, some places Motorola TGs are listed (including this database) with the least-signifigant "0" dropped i.e. they are only three hex digits. That is because the "base" TG is always a multiple of 16, so the last digit is zero. In reality, so of the "status bits" can be set, which changes the actual TG. For example, decimal 27216 is hex 6A50, but sometimes appears as 6A5 or 6A5_ .

That little comment about the last Hex digit is pretty important. Because based on that, none of your conversions up there are correct. When talking about the Moto Type II format and discussing the HEX value of a talkgroup, the status bits are always suppressed. Hence the web site you were using correctly does not call it 'HEX' as you were.

For example; Uniden TGID 1744 = Moto 06d (not 06d0)
