As the title says, I have a THD7 portable that is inoperable. By inoperable I mean will not power on

I have sent it into Kenwood. They tell me it is too old to be serviced.

Is there anyone out there or does anyone have an idea as to where I could send this to be repaired?

My eyesight is so poor even with a magnifying glass. I cannot deal with this.

Hi Ron,
The TH-D7 ended production in in the early 2000's. The TH-D7A ended production around 2008.

My guess is the battery is dead. If you want to try a replacement, Batteries America's website shows them as available. The D7 is a NiCd battery and the D7A is a NiMh. They also sell the chargers for them if needed.

Here are the links:
TH-D7 battery is about $40 PB-39N: 9.6v 700mAh NiCd battery for Kenwood TH-D7, TH-G71

TH-D7A is about $55 PB-39H: 9.6v 1450mAh NiMH battery for Kenwood TH-D7, TH-G71 radios, replaces PB-39N

Shipping to Nebraska will cost about $9

There are many new "Chinese" radios available with more features than the TH-D7 and can be purchased for less than the cost of a new battery. The "Chinese" radios emote passionate opinions about quality and harmonic suppression. hihi.

I like the BAOFENG UV-5R Mini Dual Band and the TID Radio TD-H3. Both of mine were tested on a spectrum analyzer and meet the FCC harmonic suppression specifications. Many places sell them and both can be bought for less than $35.

Here are the Amazon links:
Baofeng UV-5R Mini
TID Radio TD-H3

Good luck.

Thanks for the information
It will not even power up having 12 V applied to the power port. So I’m thinking it’s much deeper.
I’m one of those that really doesn’t like to throw things away but I guess maybe that’s what I’m gonna have to do problem is it looks like brand new no scratches no dents

no dings!

You might be able to salvage the case and sell it. Not sure how difficult that would be (I'm used to re-casing old Motorola Saber radios).
