This is really rare when you can receive such competent help at a Radio Shack store. Usually, the person there just sells you the equipment, leaving you to figure out the rest. Someone should erect an independent Web site where people can rate their local stores and staff. This would be beneficial to everyone in the hobby.

Yeah really, I was going to reply to this thread but had elected not to till now. Here's my recent experience in R/S, I was in there buying some RG-8 for an outdoor antenna system I was putting up, by chance, I just happened to notice that they had their new digital HH scanner in the display and asked to see it. The clown behind the counter acted as if he owned one himself using big words (to him) like digital baud (lol) and 8000mhz, (lol, sorry) yeah, 8000mhz. I turned it on and all he had programmed in the thing was the frequencies, no talkgroups. When I asked him why they didnt have them in there, he asked ME what talkgroups were?!?!

No offense to your posting your thread, its nice to see that someone out there actually got some reliable assistance at their local Rat Shack. However, the chances of that happening to you again are as good as winning the hoosier lotto or powerball. Again, not trying to chap any ass's, just thought it was pretty funny and so like them, thought I'd share it. Peace.......

Thanks for the post and the recognition. Most customers take the information that we give them and are just dust in the wind. It is good to have feedback such as this. If anyone in the greater lafayette area has any questions or needs help programing, buying, or reprograming just come see myself or my asst. manager Mike. We are pretty much here everyday in the morning.
Thanks
