Thanks Perry Township Radio Room

As a long time resident of Columbus, Ohio and spending my high school years long ago in UA. I grew to know Perry Township. I have gone up and down State Route 33 from Lane Ave north I can not tell you how many times. And have been down State Route 161 near McVey to see the ever presant Perry PD cruiser there watching traffic.

I even got assistance from Perry Township PD and the radio room once. Several years ago I was running around in a "clunker" and well of course the gas gauge did not work and well it bit me in the butt just north of Lane Ave. on route 33. I called the highly professional Perry Township PD and advised the dispatcher I was out of gas on 33 and would need assistance to the next gas station. Officer Hutchinson arrived in a timly manner and I was soon on my way.

While working with Upper Arlington Police Department I never had a problem calling them and requesting thier help for anything. And guess who was on the other end. Yes a profesional Perry PD dispatcher.

So now after countless years it will be closed and another agency will be dispatching for the Pd. Another sad day in central Ohio.

Good bye Perry Radio. You will be missed.

Agreed! I think they'll be sorry when they realize that the other agency's radio system is not suited to their needs. There'll be way too many dead spots/poor coverage areas to make it a viable option. We'll see what happens!

I see in the Latest News section under Franklin County in the database it says they are contracting dispatch with Worthington. What call signs/unit #s will they be going by? I was listening to Worthingon today and heard some unusual #s, can't recall them though (Possibly in the 500s).

I would guess that once the North simulcast site is completed, Worthington will switch over to the trunking system and Perry Police will have the same radio coverage they used to have.

Yes, Worthingon is only one of just a few PDs in the county still using Simulcast. I can think of Reynoldburg, Bexley, Whitehall, and New Albany off the top of my head.

Worthington/Sharon Twp PD using Simulcast? How so? I believe they are using a conventional channel or two. Nothing simulcast unless they have various towers simulcasting the same frequency.

Worthington/ Sharon Twp and now Perry Twp are all using conventional channels. They have two channels a dispatch and P3.

I have heard 500 and 600 series units on the Worthington PD repeater. I am assuming that these are Perry Township.

Someone with inside info might be able to tell us this: is there some sort of link/patch/whatever that the Perry units are using? To my trained (yeah, right) ear, the audio from the Perry units sounds a bit odd, like it's going through a patch.

Well if I remeber right Perry was using the MTS2000 walkies for the officers which is what Worthington is using. So all they would have to do is remove the trunking settings from the Franklin Conuty and use the conventional that Worthington is using. I am listening to them from Westerville and al the traffic seems to be the same level.

600 = Perry reserve officers

No patch. One of the things I was dealing with before my job was abolished at Perry was the new radio template; there is apparently an audio setting in the Perry radios that needs to be altered and wasn't by the person (not me) doing the programming.

Worthington has no plans to switch to the trunked system, although it would be nice if they did.

Worthington (along with Dublin and Grove City) is one of the more "independent-minded" among the suburbs, and wished to have their own radio system. At this point, I don't see that changing for any of those agencies in the future.

I'm not from the area so could you please tell me where their dispatch center was located ?

I think I remember see a Perry Twp. police station off Sawmill Road a few months ago when I was on vacation. Is this the same building ?

Also does Perry Twp have a fire department ? If so whats are the talkgroups or freqs ?

Sorry for all the questions. My girlfriends brother lives near the area and just wanted keep up on stuff to listen to while at his house.

Yep Perry Pd radio room was at Sawmill & 270. They used to have a fire department, but it was absorbed into Washington Township Fire Department several years ago, Tom could provide the exact date. Worthington Fire and Upper Arlington Fire provide coverage for the township.

If I remember right the call sign was KQJ943. The only reason why I remember that is one of the guys on the truck always had a wierd voice when it said it.

They had E92 and M92.

Upper Arlington provides or used to provide EMS/Fire coverage to Riverpark Apartments and State Route 33 from Lane Ave to Hayden Run/Bethal Road area. Washington/Worthington Fd/Columbus were mutial; aid units. Also Henderson Heights were covered by UAFD. God knows how many auto accident assignments I sent on SR33 while at UAPD/FD

Again this might have changed at the start of the month I'm not sure since I have not talked to Tom this month
