One minute I'm a happy scanner listener and as soon as they shoved that evil Form 605 and had me sign it today, I became a grouchy Ham operator - wanting to fill the airwaves with laments about my health, government intrusion in my life, and how Hams licensed next week didn't have it as tough as me...

Watch out for craziness... It's coming to a bandwidth surrounding you.

Congrats on getting your ticket... now you're safe from most of those states that don't want you scanning in your vehicle!

And if you truly want to be a grouchy amateur, don't forget to lament about how being an amateur really meant something when everyone had to learn code... that will really get the craziness going.

Now, I just have to wait until dealers get some stock in and decide on the HF rig.

I even dug out the Vibroplex bug I was given years ago and am going to learn that dang code!

Congratulations on the new ticket. As a young dumb guy with one I hear a lot about the former CW requirements. So always be sure to nag about that, ask everyone their favorite type of ice cream, extrapolate too much about your medical history, and above all else be sure to buy yourself a radio that you can add something like a MDC1200 from Kenwood or Motorola so everyone can go absolutely ballistic over it - tell them you do it because it sounds cool.

Everything except the last suggestion will make you fit in like hand in glove.

Also start an antenna farm on the Minister of War and Finance’s royal chariot. She’ll love that. Slap your call sign on everything too.

Refrain from all of the above. Do have fun. I heard tale of crusty hams but have yet to encounter one on a repeater. HF you’ll want to take your meds if you hang out there long enough late at night.
