As my approach to the radio scanning and searching hobby has changed, with me now undertaking a lot more "up close" scanning and searching session, (using Close Call a lot of the time with the recorder feature on my UBCD436PT), I have needed to find a suitable way to carry this while it is in use, while still providing a good level of protection. Until now, I was using a hard case for transport and then placing my UBCD436PT in my jacket, as the weather warms up, this would no longer work as well.

My main goal was to be able to leave the telescopic aerial on my UBCD436PT while it was in use and also for storage, this connects via the BNC to SMA adaptor. The total length is about 23cm and finding a case this long, that is also not too big to fit in my backpack was a struggle.

I was recently at our local Woolworths and happen to have my UBCD436PT with me. I was looking around when I came across this leak-proof jug for $5.87, a quick checked showed that it was the perfect size and would also have enough space for my cables, chargers and other bits and pieces I carry for my portable scanning and searching sessions. I spent some time trying a few different layouts and have settled on this one, it has enough room for my UBCD436PT, accessories and aerials. I added a piece of Corflute to the centre to divide this and I also added some bubble wrap to protect my UBCD436PT from bumps.

Overall, I am very pleased with how well this case has come out, It is also small enough to fit in my backpack. For $5.87 it provides a great level of protection.

While this case was designed for my radio scanning / logging needs, the same ideas could be used for amateur radio, radio scanning or any other radio storage need.

Unique idea but I think I'd be afraid of dropping it on a hard surface and the container may crack. Is there anything under the tape for outside cushion?

Here in the States we have Harbor Freight which sells a Pelican case ripoff that's perfect size for $12.99. I have 2 of them. The only bad thing is fitting in everything can get tight with a larger radio like the SDS -100/436HP-
