Alright, I was at a shooting last weekend and a ch 6 guy told me he was able to scan emsa but he is arrogant and wouldnt elaborate. I threw suggestions at him and he just smiled. SO anyone got any dirt on this? Id like to know.

Not real sure, But I think the media are provided radios from the City that allow listening on specified channels only.

Wouldn't surprise me if there are news agencies that can listen to EMSA. It's all business between two for-profit organizations. Money talks.

arrogant eh? Maybe because some of us have information Mark we don't care to share with the competition. If the method is shared it might go away.

Well as i said, i dont listen to emsa, i never really did. i only brought it up on here because thousands of the members here enjoyed listening to emsa. not for media reasons. this is a scanning forum not a media forum. Alot of them miss emsa and if theres any way at all i can get info out or interest started in any effort to hear emsa i would do it for others who enjoyed listening to emsa to be able to hear emsa again. I dont need emsa for news related info. I have many contacts and i get phone calls from officers when things happen so scanner or not im gonna know about it...Maybe im the arrogant one. THeres nothing wrong with being arrogant. I like to help others. When I asked the guy if he could hear emsa he smiled like he had top secret info on it, i found that arrogant.im usually the first to share with my competing photogs at night any new info i may have heard on radios or new scanner info etc. I'm not competetive, im paid by the story so it doesnt matter to me.......Hope this helps and if you have any info to add on emsa please do so, not for news reasons but for scanner listeners who come here, besides as i said b4 its only a matter of time and we'll all know the secrets etc and those who wish to listen to emsa will be able to and those who dont(like me) wont......Drive thru.

Unfortunately not in this case. EMSA is using APCO-25 digital transmissions that are encrypted. The scanners are out to decode APCO-25 digital transmissions, but there never will be a scanner that is available off-the-shelf that will decode encryption.

I have a strange feeling the news media does have a few radios with the EMSA. Listen at the traffic reports on the radio. I have heard a few mentioning EMSA is on the way.
A lot of dispatches I hear from TPD/TFD say "EMSA is enroute" maybe thats were they get that info.

Just so the record is straight here - is your position that there will be a scanner that will decrypt DVP-XL digital encryption?

In OKC EMSA is using analog UHF, 463.175, they are carrying a mix of Astro Sabers and regular Sabers for portables. Why they have Astro radios is beyond me.
