Good afternoon, I could not stop lisiting to my scanner during the blizzard of 2011 and it was fun. How about those cars on Lake Shore Drive, I was monitering Zones 2 and 4 as well as the city-wides and CFD main and EMS north. Wow I was suprissed until the bus jack knifed to close LSD and then it took the fire deparetment hours to reach the stranded moterisits, they had to call an EMS plan I for this. In addition I also monitored booth IDOT, and streets and San. I also think the CTA ****ed up by NOT REROUTING THE NORTH LAKE SHORE DRIVE EXPRESS BUSES, on to Clark or the inner drive. All I have to say is good job to all those who responded. If any one els wishes to post please feel free. Thank you.

Was listening to most of what you were listening to, and the radio traffic was mind boggling to the say the least. Streets and Sanitation had my attention when the plow drivers were mentioning they were "losing the drive". Shortly after that, the accident and the ambulance and companies had a difficult time getting to the scene and I knew trouble was brewing.

I think the Drive should have been shut down around 1300. The forecast was calling for waves of 12-24 feet, wind gusts in excess of 50mph. They did a great job overnight, and all is open now.

I think plow trucks are half the problem.

The only reason my car got stuck that night was because plow trucks leaving giant mounds of snow in intersections and turn lanes. and I drive a P71 so that should give you an idea of the snow abilities of my car

Other than that that blizzard was weak sauce. People should have stayed inside, not like we had two whole days warning about it

I know in Will County the word was that all PW snow plows weren't even running during the storm, they just waited until daylight. I Was not monitoring Chicago itself but Palos, Orland and Will county and the amount of police cars that were getting stuck trying to help motorists was kind of ridiculous.

It boggles my mind how nobody is ever prepared when these things happen

I think the city did a great job warning everyone that this storm was on the way. I live in Atlanta and even our radio stations and TV stations were talking about how bad it was going to be. I also have to give credit to all the first responders because they were all doing a great job that night.

That wasn't the case in Eastern Will County. The plow trucks ran all night plowing the East/West roads to get to all the stranded vehicles. At least the local city plows were out. I almost got hit by one when I stopped to help a stranded female driver. She had half the road blocked and it was night time. The guy was in a Township plow and he never even slowed down for us. He drove over to the left side ditch and just missed us, and my truck.
Some roads like RT. 1 to Beecher had to be closed because of the conditions.

Some of the best scanner monitoring I've ever heard indeed.
