Since The Colony moved to their new frequencies (off of Denton County Trunk system), I have been only able to hear Dispatch.

Is there something additional I need to be programming to hear the Fire/Police units?

they are probobly using simplex 2watt frequencies for Fire Ground operations. Might get close to a fire incident and listen to the dispatch Channel and see if they are talking and their conversation is choppy, squelchy slightly noisy. if so, then they are using the repeater Output in simplex mode for fireground operations. this may or may not be Coded squelch.

This might be worth mentioning maybe not. I hear them tone out FD on PD freq. I hear them do the morning tone out at 06:30AM. Is it possible that PD and FD are shared responsibilities between both forces. Is it possible that both the PD and FD are taking place on the same freq. I don't monitor this all the time but was just wondering.

Actually, The Colony Fire department hasn't gone over to UHF yet, they are still on the Denton County trunking system for their operations.

This is due to the mutual-aid requirements. (all the mutual-aid departments are on 800)

The toneout is repeated on their trunking talkgroups, the main police frequency, and their VHF repeater.

If the toneout starts with a single long BEEEP it is a fire call, if it is a series of beeps it is a medical call.

The police are on UHF full-time now. The repeater has excellent coverage (I can hear it way down into Tarrant county and over into Wise county) Not sure what sort of equipment they are using (probably Moto though)

All of the info is available on the Denton County pages here on Radio Reference.
