At least it will be new designs and not a old GRE900 with a firmware update being sold as a new design.
(with an appropriate markup).
Yeah, right. How many years was it between the rollout of the 536 and the SDS200? The 996 and the 536? When has Uniden ever replaced a model with it's successor in just a year? With that said, let's see what kind of a new case Uniden puts the 200 in next year and sells it as the "latest" scanner with "new" bells and "improved" whistles (with an appropriate markup).
I don't live in Fairfield County, so it doesn't affect me. All I am concerned about is TODAY.
I can hear everything I want to hear. You are welcome to your "Sky is Falling" view.
Sure. For a base option. But that's about it. Really cant compare it to having all the bells and whistles an actual scanner radio has though. But like you said, what your getting for price comparison is pretty darn good! How close are we to DIY scanners? What chips are required? How much do they cost? Seems to me that a $20 dongle and a $20 raspberry PI are pretty close to having a full blown $1000 scanner.
I think its obvious that scanning is diminishing to a point but like someone mentioned in a previous post so has ham radio. However look at ham radio , they still have bigtime mfg like Icom, yaesu, etc.
ten13, Uniden America Corporation is NOT going to redesign the SDS-100/SDS-200 again! It just came out not too long ago.Who was it who said, "There's a sucker born every minute...."?
They didn't develop those radios overnight. Probably in the development stage five or so years ago, before the changes before us were becoming mainstream.
With that said, let's see what kind of a new case Uniden puts the 200 in next year and sells it as the "latest" scanner with "new" bells and "improved" whistles (with an appropriate markup).
Why does everyone keep using "E" instead of encryption? Just curious.

Wondering that myself.. Maybe in an attempt to avoid the Radioreference banhanmer? Fastest way to get a thread shut down is encryption and streaming talk.
Because of the first line at the top of every forum on RR. And K7MFC's comment below.

It was stated earlier in the thread:Because of the first line at the top of every forum on RR. And K7MFC's comment below.
So, lessee, let's go back to the original post in this thread:
At some point, this thread diverged off into talk of monitoring encrypted systems. You can hope, you can wish, you can pray, but being able to legally monitor encrypted systems in the U.S. is not going to happen. And, Uniden is not going to spend any effort developing a means to monitor encrypted systems as long as it remains illegal in the U.S., which I believe to be their largest market.
Some folks seem to be confused about RadioReference policies towards encryption. Identifying systems that are encrypted is not a problem. On the other hand, beating dead horses about encryption is a problem. And, more to the point, beating dead horses along the lines of "agencies are being driven to encryption because of streaming and scanner apps" is a major problem and will result in posts being deleted and warnings issued.
So the moderators are too stupid to know that "E" equals encryption? That's funny.
And I'm pretty sure the announcement you mention has an "and" not an "or" in reference to encryption/ streaming.
