The Gumball Rally

Usually once a year some very well to do motorists driving BMWs', Ferraris, and other very expensive foreign made vehicles find their way thru some of the western states including Nevada and drive with little regard to traffic safety. It is going on in Northeastern Nevada at this time and their destination for the day is Las Vegas. For those in Central and NE Nevada listening to the NHP is most interesting. Radio traffic should get very interesting in the LV area later today or early this evening.

Some of the race cars are nearing Southern Nevada and NHP in this area is gearing up to deal with the problem. In Central Nevada some of the cars were stopped doing about 123 mph in a 70 mph zone. It has been interesting to monitor.

NHP is using LV3 and the Allied channel involving vehicle stops on participants of the Gumball Rally.

The rally continues today with participants going from LV to LA probably largely via secondary roads and avoiding the interstate highways as is the norm for them. I am sure NHP will be looking for them along with CHP. Again, another opportunity for good monitoring. Speeds in excess of 120mph are very common.

Gumbally Rally

This AM it seems to have resumed via SR 160 towards Pahrump as NHP has just received complaints of race cars driving recklessly with a Hummer following them.

One NHP unit has four racers stopped and each was travelling over 100 mph with NYE SO enroute to assist.

We had an interesting incident over in the eastern Sierra region of California in Mono County last night involving an expensive car clocked at "130 plus" on US 395. I wonder if there is a connection to this ralley?
