If they're low, they would probably be using the same freqs normal copters and other VFR would use. Darker would be the AF version. But sounds like it's Marine. Maybe just seems darker back-lit.

If there flying low right over your head then a scanner that scans the FM Lo band as well as the UHF milair band is in order here. Also a scanner with Signal Stalker, Close Call, or Spctrum Sweeper function would help tremendously. A good non-stock antenna for a handheld such as the Maldol AL-500H will bring in the signal from a little farther in than was intended.

The Air Force has them. They have a full squadron of them for one of their Spec Ops unit. They were based at Hurlburt but might have moved out to Cannon in NM. Eglin has a couple for their test unit. See attached pic:

Wow, an 'ET' 22... Nice. I didn't know they had any. I'm so behind on all the air news.

corn thanks for the heads up on the info. like i said in my post i have been out since 1993 and it is hard to keep up with everything nowdays. i do know that orginally the osprey was gonna be just for the marines and it came close to being scrapped due to crashes but they got the "bugs" worked out and they went ahead with the program. glad to see the other services using the aircraft. most of the time it is the other way around and the marines get the reject equipment from the other services.

They landed one at a park on Staten Island as part of the Fleet Week celebrations. The rotor wash broke tree limbs that fell on spectators, injuring 10. Nothing serious though. Maybe should of thought through the approach on that LZ a little more.

Anyway, I am sure they could have been heard on the Hudson River Corridor CTAF 123.05.

Your right about that. The USMC still flies the best sounding helicopters around, even though they may be old they still sound great and that's the AH-1W and UH-1N. Although for a combat comfort level they are kind of loud. The sound of freedom! Thanks for your service.
