• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Where can I find the source of this information. Not sure I’d get too far by saying “well, because Buddrosa says so”.

Do you send them in under your business name or the department's name? I wonder if the 1st tech might have made a decision based on that.
APX6/7/8000XE's goin under the company contract but with the department name. This radio even had a "Fire Chief" label on it. I am hoping it was just the particular Motorola tech the first time. I also had a procurement person Corporate person who should have known better), decide that second time that $725 was too much for repair.

Once I mentioned the replacement cost for a broken APX8000XE at over $9200, the flat rate fee was considered to be "acceptable" to the corporate bean counter types. Amazed at corporate bureaucracy.

Aren't they supposed to be IP68, or did it experience worse than "submersion in water up to 2 meters for 4 hours"? I always wondered if that only applied during the warranty period, or maybe lifetime (or Motorola's EOL).
So far, all of "mine" have been repairable. This was the first that was out of warranty, so flat rate repair fee applied. Even if it had been flat rate plus parts, times several times, would have been less than the cost of a new radio.

Being worth over $5k meant this is a capital asset too.....so if it had not been repairable, I would have found out how to devalue a capital asset. This will happen eventually if I stay with this employer long enough, thought this might be an issue. Nobody has lost or broken a capital asset radio, yet. And it was damage from use and normal water exposure, not immersion.

Retired 40 Year Firefighter NW Tenn
This was taught to us by TN Fire Acadamy Instructors and our Training Officer our now retired Chief.
I was fulltime paid firefighter for a city we were always told this I see both sides the firefighter may get the money and the city get fined for lack of safety recommendations not being followed.
We were always taught the city provided all the protective gear you the firefighter were responsible to use all the gear and follow the SOG's.
Just a quick search brought up both sides of this and varied state to state.
