I believe I answered my own question about the skipping, (see previous page). My other question is what does the error indicator mean, as I consistently have one of those show up at the very beginning of the upload cycle?

It would skip systems if you are uploading a P25 system to an analog scanner. Otherwise I suspect what you are seeing is the 0Mhz frequency being skipped.

Thank you. In my second post I mention seeing an error message consistently come up when uploading systems, always at the very start of the upload cycle. What can I do about that, any ideas?

Tampa, your reference to the 'memory full' message caught my eye - did you delete the copy of the preprogrammed systems before you did any programming?

You will not damage anything, nor really lose anything, by deleting this data. It's a copy - the full list of folders is in an area you can't touch. There's likely numerous systems in the copy that you would never be able to hear, unless you traveled to that area.

I sometimes get 1 or 2 errors when I upload to my 396, but it never seems to amount to very much that's important. But I had deleted my copy of the preprogrammed systems long ago, and never see a memory full issue

Yes, I had deleted the pre-programmed systems previously, thanks Mike. The one error I'm getting doesn't seem to be really affecting anything upon closer inspection, however I'd still like to get rid of it. I will click on it next time to see what happens, thanks guys......... John.

Betcha $5.00 the error is your Fire Tone-Outs?
Previous version to this current one was known to screw with your FTO's.
I had the same issue and had to reload the FTO data and error message was gone on next download.

Interesting, thanks Bonus1331. I haven't touched the FTO's since I got the scanner, and have no FTO data saved, I wonder if that would matter.

If you have AGC overrides done on the XT models, you will get errors about those...they don't tend to save and reload properly. I just manually put it back after I'm done programming my 396XT.

Are you kidding me?!?! I've had my BCD996T in mothballs for months 'til this week, dusted it off and started getting it programmed and figuring out the bazillion options this thing has.

Looking at all the software out there and came across FreeScan - WOW! I'm lucky as my little podunk town doesn't have any trunking or complicated stuff but this program rocks. In the time it took me to manually add 20 freqs, I figured out the easy interface and imported 400+ new ones.

As I get more into it I'll probably have some questions, but for now, THANK YOU to whoever put this out. The donation is forthcoming!

That would be Assaf (cpuerror) a few posts up. :)
And the program does rock!

Let me know if I'm just missing it, but I have a request for the next update - Can you make an option so when FreeScan opens, it defaults to the last open file? I do B98.5% of all my work on my "metro" file and it would make it easier to just have it default to it.

Thanks again for an awesome program!

You can access the file quickly by using the recent file list. Beyond that I have been intending to make it so it opens up a file by association, so if started with freescan.exe myfile.996 it will load that file automatically. In this case you would just have to modify the shortcut you use for FreeSCAN.

For what its worth... I asked about using FreeScan to clone a BCD996T onto a BCD396XT back in Aug 2009.

We finally got the new BCD396XT handheld in the newsroom the other day and I just finished using Freescan to do just that and it was GREAT!! Simple. No problems, no errors!
