The idiots ( citizens) here in Arlington tx are listening to the scanner and following the police around and video taping them on all traffic stops. That's why cities are blocking the signal from us, the scanner listeners. Wake up people!!!! The same thing happened here with the FWPD a few years ago, and they are 100% encrypted now.

Yep, ambulance chasing is alive and well i guess. As i`ve said before, the sins of the fathers (ambulance-chasing laywers back in the day) visited on the children (that means you & me out here in scanner-land). I just hope the hobby holds on for as long is it can and dosen`t give up without one GNARLY fight :). N9NRA

Big difference between the ambulance chasers of yesteryear and the cop-hating CopWatch crowd of today.

Yes and no, explaination, yes they (the copwatchers) are not like the ambulance chasers of yesteryear, but in a way they`re the same, as they`re "sightseeing" a scene, which the PD/FD boys kinda don`t like, so while you`re correct that there`s a difference, and it is kinda big, it`s in a way not all that big, as these people that are doing this are in a way like them ambulance chasing folks from days of old :). Fortunately we don`t have them around here that i know of, and i hope it stays that way for the sake of the scanning hobby (and to an extent the HAM radio hobby too...to wit...ARES/RACES/Skywarn intrests, they use a scanner to monitor for where the weather event may be heading and/or damage reports), ya can`t easily do the Skywarn thingy if ya can`t hear the traffic of your served agency (and they can`t, or won`t, hear you). Depends...after 32+ years of emergency scene photography, I and many others are treated with the respect and courtesy that is usually reserved for public safety co-workers.

Not even close. The ambulance chasers of yesteryear were news and media types looking for blood and guts in a story, mixed in with some lookie loos and slimy lawyers looking for blood money. Todays copwatcher is out to embarrass and paint in a bad light to the public anyone in a law enforcement capacity. Theres a handful of the type right here on this site. They take a picture of a cop smoking a cigarette, sitting in a donut shop or film the apprehension of a subject then publish it to a blog without the facts and out of context. Usually these types have had many brushes with the law themselves and have problems with authority in general.

Scene "sightseeing" is a natural effect of a disaster or police/fire activity. It is expected. What is not expected is having to defend ones self (to the public) against a group with an agenda.

We don't want or need encryption. In an open and free society the public has a right to know what their police/fire/emergency troops are being used for. Open (non-encrypted communications) keeps everyone honest because they know they are being watched.

I can tell you that in the south most of the agencies encrypt because in a lot of these small southern towns the authorities are just as corrupt as the criminals their suppose to protect us from. look at alabama and the amount of encryption used. PROBABLY IN THE TOP TEN OF highly encrypted states in the nation

The problem with encryption is Quis custodiet ipsos custodes or "who guards the guards".........

The fastest way to corruption for a police force is to let them know that no-one is (or has the ability to) watch or to listen to them. Look at how the Police already treat bystanders filming their actions on video from public vantage points. The police often threaten to arrest them or take their (video) phone, even though the Supreme Court has already ruled this type of filming is perfectly legal. Now, add to the mix encrypted voice and you have the makings for a corrupt department. What's next: doing away with "sunshine laws" and declaring town meetings no longer "open" for the public to see what they're up to???

What purpose does this provide besides starting another encryption thread that the site admins asked we try not to do ?

The purpose is that increased use of encryption is directly related to online streaming and that is proof.

110% correct.

While 'an unnamed major PS LMR manufacturer' is not specifically naming RR&Broadcastify, a blind/deaf/mute can figure out that it is pretty clear who they are talking about in this graphic.

Reason or not, streaming is being used to justify full time encryption... Like it or not.

Sorry but honesty doesn't have any thing to do with encryption.
The reason for encryption is because the media/news crews getting in the way, patient info , sensitive info, ect..

Come on Motorola this sure seems racist to me, it looks like the criminal is depicted as being Black.
