well why don't all streaming people just stop doing it now ?
there should do there ruinining all your lives you all in encrypted areas must miss it horrificly
My prediction is all law enforcement will go unmonitorable in the coming years. Be it from encryption or ever changing technologies. Streaming audio has been a convenient excuse but it was never the ultimate reason for it. If you look at how many (how few) listeners there are for most feeds, I have a hard time believing a whopping 22 listeners in a huge city like Dallas Texas (an actual current number as of right now) is really posing a problem.
I'm in an encrypted area. I have asked the police why they're doing it. They say it's for officer safety. It's a pre-programmed response.
As for missing it, I stopped chasing them when they went to trunking so I was accustomed to not listening to the local police or fire. So when they encrypted it was not that big of a deal for me personally. I do listen to some neighboring counties sometimes that are analog conventional. Most of what goes on there is extremely boring, running license plates all day. When I hear sirens from a fire truck, I'll turn on broadcastify but by then it's usually too late to know what's going on. In my area you have to listen for a long time before something exciting happens on fire dispatch. Not worth the electricity to listen full time IMO.
If you want to keep monitoring the best thing I can tell you is to attend the public meetings with a group of people who want to keep monitoring and speak out against the migration to digital. Yes,
all digital. It's hard to fight against the special interests, especially when so few people care and most of the public doesn't understand it. They've managed to do it in a surprising number of cities though.
