With the advent of DMR availability for mainstream scanners, with NXDN reportedly close behind, the test bed for those that forecast a mass move to ENC when those formats become monitorable has been cultivated. It will be interesting to see how reality compares to the predictions.

I can think of a coule of agencies near me that went EP for municiple enforcement, and a fire department went strapped EP. These agencies saw the writting on the wall

They would have done it anyway.

BTW, just helping you translate.

coule = couple
municiple = municipal
EP = no translation
writting = writing

Yes, the saw the writing on the wall. I bet they fully expected people to either purchase DMR capable radios to listen or use dongles.

BTW, just helping you translate.

Thanks for that. Sorry my phone does not auto correct for you.

EP = no translation

I figured someone with such a connected view into the industry would have known that EP = Enhanced Protection. Thank you for being my autocorrect!

I don't think auto correct stood a chance. But we shouldn't have to rely on auto correct if it was spelled correctly the first time.

Careful, you may want to take a closer look at the user you are responding to.

He's special. I don't mean special needs either. Seems the rules do not apply when you are the owner of the house...

I know exactly who Lindsay is. Makes no difference.

What is your message? That those who make the rules are exempt from them or shouldn't set the example?

DMR Scanners

My opinion on the issue of DMR users going "secure" due to the release of consumer grade DMR scanners coming out is I hope some of them do it.

I don't say that to disappoint future DMR scanner users, it's just having a plug and play solution to monitoring takes the fun out of it. I enjoyed scanning the "can't be scanned".

At least give us a challenge.

FYI, this looks like a great example of a moron scanner user with a political agenda basically driving into the middle of an active scene where they're searching for multiple suspects, and who can soon presumably take full credit for his agency going 100% encrypted in the near future. Then when he gets stopped after driving into the scene with his gun in tow, he keeps his scanners running. He could have at least turned them off after getting stopped.

Apparently, he is a self-proclaimed "cop watcher" who is totally clueless about the long-term consequences of his delusional constitutional crusade. Ughhh...

Its the comments from all the blow-hards in the peanut gallery that are really concerning about this video.

The end is near... :-(

Traditional Conventional Scanning is almost Dead. Only Small towns and small cities are still using the old way of communication, But with newer and cheaper technology, even these small communities are switching to digital and even encryption. This trend will not stop. Whats worse - is that with the militarizing of our police services to control and to confine our Information, our rights, and our freedom with the use of the planet excuse for there safety of our officer, and for the public safety as well. The fact is that major crime professional don't use scanner apps or even scanners in general. Mainly they use cell phones, GMRS/FRS, and setup scouts around there boarder's. For Decades all communication was in the clear and this was not an issue. We had rules: 1. keep what we hear to our self, 2. Don't use the information that we here for personal gain. 3. Don't rebroadcast the signal. An they had rules, 1. Do not hide, excused, or change a meaning of the message. 2. All communication must be in English.

With this said. I do understand the use of encryption, however this must only be used on Tac channels, Swat, EMS to Hospital, Ect. NOT on dispatching Channels. These need to be in the clear for NEWs team and for the Press and for the general public.

In my own opinion: Rebroadcasting on the web is not right. for many reason. 1. It can be missed used easier, 2. This give excuses to go to total encryption. 3. it does break the fcc rules of keep what we hear to our self.

BUT!! Whats done, is Done, and there no turning back. So say good-by to scanning Police-Fire-EMS. Even stores are going DMR & LTE radios. Shortwave broadcasting are even dying. Only Hams and a few GOV & PRIVATE broadcaster are on shortwave. Soon there will be only silence, Static and buzzing sounds of digital communication.

Good By Scanner, Thanks for the fun.

Locally, ALERT seized a BCD-536 when they raided the Hells Angles club house in Edmonton...

So actually , yes they do. Unless you do not think HA are a 'major crime professional'.

If agencies are not encrypted, criminals WILL use scanners and live streaming apps to listen to them.
