email alerts for updated counties/systesm (if possible)

How about RSS alerts on updated systems/counties? OR... Maybe a PM when a county/system on your watch list is updated?

I also like UPMans idea about model specific forums. Maybe as subforums? For instance, the Radio Shack forum could contain forums about the Pro-96, Pro-97, etc. (and maybe even a "why they're better than Unidens" forum... ) ;)

The one thing I would like to see is that when someone clicks to start a new thread there be a notice telling them if they are asking how do program their scanner that in the question they need to give the name(s) of the systems they are interested in, along with the city, county and state the systems are in. Also a notice to include the make and model of scanner they are using and any software they have to program it.

Suggestion for the database side

I would like to see more info in the "system information last updated on....." page. If you dont catch the change within a week you may never know what the change was.

i.e. I live in Michigan but travel to Ohio a few times a year. I dont keep up on all of the Ohio changes so before my trip I check the areas I am going and see that changes have been made but have to work hard to figure out what they are. This is real hard on state wide systems where there maybe hundereds of data entries.

I know this could take up a lot of space but even if the talkgroup/freq, tower number or agency name was included in the change listing it would help.

Otherwise, this sight makes scanning posible!!!

Lindsay,

The one thing that I think would be nice would be the ability to sort the monitored systems and counties on the premium home page. This give us the ability us to sort by name, state, or most importantly, by last update.

Granted, they're currently color coded, but if you go a few days without logging into the site, you could potentially miss an update.

Other than that (which, admittedly, is minor), this is by far the premier frequency reference site around!

Thanks,

Steve

No link to take you back to the forums at the bottom of each thread is what bothers me most.

Agree:

Changed | Admin | Date Changed
Frequencies updated | xxxxxx | 2006-10-20 07:18:51

This doesn't really healp all that much unless the frequencies are still highlighted. Even if they are, what exactly was updated? The actual frequency? The FCC License? The Input Freq? The PL Tone? The Description? ...I'm sure you get the point. Just makes it a lot easier to determine if I need to reprogram my radios.

Color in Database

On any state and county database a light green background indicates a change to that area in the last 24 hours.
When you go to the agency listing, the frequencies (first column) are listed with that same? green background, shouldn't..couldn't it be some other color unless the frequency has been changed?

Umm, the frequency column (the one that people should be using to monitor) is highlighted because that is the one you need. Changes in county/agency listings are highlighted in yellow (just like the TRS entries). I understand what you are saying but it is that way because...well it is.

But Lou, c'mon...pleeeeease. Can't we use something like pink or purple. Just kidding.

Seriously, though, a different color than green (or yellow) should be used as to avoid the confussion that so often happens and people complain about.

I suggest a means of searching the database based on frequency and mode: APCO-25, or at least add mode to the search results when searching by state and frequency.

I heard digital conventional traffic on a frequency and am trying to find who it was. I searched for that frequency in my and adjacent states, but have to page through the results ignoring those with a tone listed, and drill down through ones where the tone field is blank to see whether it's absent because it is digital, or because it wasn't confirmed/ submitted.

As digital becomes more prevalent and the database accumulates NACs, will there be an ability to search by frequency and NAC like there is now by frequency and PL/DPL?

Thanks,
Jim

I know I have already posted my "One Thing".... but there are things that keep popping into my mind:
> Would it be possible to add some kind of new submission notification that would pop-up, a la the Private Messages, to db admins when they are elsewhere in the site?
> Would it be possible to add a link on each state's homepage that would allow submitters to contact db admins directly.... and the reverse of that would be some kind of link that would allow admins to reverse contact anonymous submitters for additional information while still protecting their status ?

thanx...

On the database downloads the PDF files look really good BUT....

I would much rather have the option of a CSV file since we can work on it. Some Trunking systems have hundereds of TG ID's I am trying to find a way to extract them so they can be configured in Excel and then re-uploaded in one of various programs, in this case ID Tracker.

For others in the big city it may not be a TGID issue but a frequency issue either way CSV files give us the option to manipulate the data, or software to import it while PDF does not.

Thanks,
Rich

Rich,

I think Lindsay is working on CSV for TRS for the next release (don't hold my feet to the fire on that); however, a work around for your specific thing would be to click the link on the page that places the entire TG list in one table (near top of TG's), then copy and paste into Excel.

DATA Sound Bytes

RR is light-years ahead of any other radio-related site I've come across in terms of its frequency database, community updating and mining of the information. However, it is (in my book) missing something...

I really believe one extra thing that should be helpful to most/all and particularly the n00bs is a "Sound Library" with sound-bytes of all recognized data streams.

In most cases, I think we all know the difference when we hear a paging system vs a trunking control channel vs a P25 transmission. But if we had a library of sound-bytes that we could reference so that those with untrained ears can identify the modulation would make this site one step closer to bliss. ;-)

Whadya think?

I agree

It would be nice for premium members to get a private message or an email
telling them that a watched system has been updated with the update itself in the message or email...

That list all in one table is great but on a page like this there is no link for that. I hope the csv will work on the pages with conventional freqs...

I third that and I know it can be done. I forget the website but I used to receive updates by email every time one of my systems were changed.

I don't understand what you are after. CSV downloads are already in existence for county pages (even the one you linked.) What is it you are looking for?

Maybe you should mention that he needs to click on the Downloads link at the top of the page ;)
