• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

After spending about a thousand dollars on more apx holsters than I can count both OEM Motorola and after market, I never found one that both fit well and would let me charge the radio without taking the holster off. Well, years of searching have finally paid off and I have been able to locate what may well possibly be the world's best APX holster. It's very solid feeling, Lets you charge the radio with it on, fits BOTH the XE and NON XE APX radios, and its even an OEM Motorola part all AVAILABLE FOR $35 MSRP!!!!! Why haven't I heard of this sooner? Well apparently Motorola in creating the perfect holster forgot to tell anyone about it and I had to dig through some very obscure websites and make way to many phone calls to get a part number let alone get an image of it.

Well no more, hopefully, I can no put an end to the obscurity of this magical holster and bring it out of the cave its been hiding in. PART NUMBER PMLN7732A images attached below!!!!!

The amount of people who have asked me for a better APX holster is staggering and I have never been able to get them a good answer until now.

I like it, they look cool.

Slight pet peeve of mine, the speaker faces towards you. So you have audio playing towards your body instead of out, and the display and keypad are susceptible to damage.

I think the non XE model is a little damaged ;)

The holster actually has some buffer over the speaker so that it isn't pressed directly against the user, this prevents muffling of the audio and gives the speaker "breathing room".

As for the keypad and screen being exposed to the elements, true, this basically turns the APX radio into more of an XTS style form factor. This, however, is a sacrifice I'm willing to make since I use the display and keypad so much. The APX also has a much more durable housing than the XTS and they are relatively cheap and easy to replace should one get damaged.

Also yes, my non XE has seen better days haha

Or, it was only available in Australia market until this week and just was added to the new North America Motorola shopping site on Monday for $27. https://shop.motorolasolutions.com/accessory-kituniversal-carry-holster/product/PMLN7732A There was a funny guy selling them on ebay a few months ago for $60 each!

From what I can see it has actually been available in North America through MOL for quite some time (months if not years). It just seems that nobody in North America knew about the part number since it isn't listed on any of the big e-commerce websites (shopwiscomm, radioparts, magnumelectronics) and apparently just recently became available on Monday at https://shop.motorolasolutions.com/accessory-kituniversal-carry-holster/product/PMLN7732A. Hopefully now some more of the bigger e-commerce people will list this so that people can stop price gouging on fleebay.

Freakin' awesome! Gonna order some thru MoL asap.

Also, LOVE that waterjet cut housing on the APX. Was that the one from IWCE a few years back?

If anyone is interested, Ken Bryant could get this for us at a lower price than MOL. His email address is email@kenbryant.net . I've been using his for many years as my MOL dealer. Great guy!

I heard that he is a great dealer. If you can get an exact price for one that would be great.

What is the black piece going between the volume knob on both of the radios

-mikegilbert Very cool and yes Motorola likes to give out their "custom" radios every once in a while.

-ResQguy Interesting I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola didn't release this APX holster into the biggest APX market until recently but I could have sworn I saw this part number on North America MOL before. I just didn't order the item due to the fact that I didn't know what it was.

-N4CYA That is the elastic that is a part of the holster. This piece helps apply tension to the hoster so it doesn't wiggle around.

Mine is apparently on the truck for delivery. Getting kind of late in the day though.

$22.50 on MOL, not bad. Looks like you have to remove the battery in order to get this on/off, unless you're using a slim battery that it would slide right over. Not that you'd necessarily need to take it off since you can charge the radio with it on.
