The PRO-137 or PRO-162 for a 1st time user??

I am going to purchase one of these for my nephew this x-mas.. It will be his first scanner.. He will be useing it for local/state Police in MA.. I know MSP use motorola trunking, but if you program the frequency's, leaving out the control channels, you can pick them up pretty decently.. So, trunking aside, which of these two scanners would be the easiest for a 1st time user.. We do not live near Worcester, or any other trunking community, just the MSP is in our area.. Our local sourounding community is mostly all vhf/uhf.. They both seem to pick up the same frequency's, including Military Air, and both have text tags.. So which one would be the better buy?

If there is trunking in the area that he would be listening to and you get him a conventional only scanner he will not continue to be interested in scanners. sorry, but it will be much to difficult. It would be better to get an older used Pro-93 or Pro-95 unless rebanding is in you area...

Fortunately, GA
go for the pro-164 it is suppose to be on sale starting tomorrow according to another thread here for 99$...

I agree. Can be programmed with Win97. Makes it a breeze to use. Has trunking and conventional in one scanner that is easy to use.
