Hey all. I just purchased a GRE500. I have been around scanners in the past but just getting back into it. Its a great radio to tryout this new digital world on. However, I am having problems grasping the concept of this Multi site system (PRWN) I have done extensive research and have looked through the RR. Im also understanding the "rome, stationary" Concepts. I think> :)

What im wondering is.
Does all the simulcast sites broadcast all TGs in the PRWN system? Also what do the IR sites broadcast? I live in Chandler. Do I simply look for the sites near me to listen to phx, Gilbert, or any other TG. etc..? I know that the Gilbert mesa, and Tempe systems are on the PRWN so im interested in monitoring them. I had someone pre-program the scanner to get me a starting point for PHX and some west valleys. I am able to tune in PHX PD from chandler on Simulcast A (i think) with no prob, but can not receive any of the east valley cities when I set up a site that is near me. Do i need to tune into the same site that PHXPDD is set to for my east valley TGs since I know im receiving OK.

Im also picking up the new Light rail with no prob. The only way I worked that out is by setting up all 30 or more CCs in the Talksystem that I lined only for the Light rail TGs. Off hand, im not sure witch location im picking up when I receive trans. It seems to work, but I am trying to understand this system better so I can be more efficient with the programing. Im tempted to do that with all TGs but I would rather not if I simply understand the system structure.

Does anyone have any info for me or even some links or articles that would help me any any others out? Any maps that have the sites, etc. Any east valy people who monitor? Thanks so much for all your help!!

Simulcast A carries all PPD traffic, getting anything from the east valley with the stock antenna probably won't happen(I live in Mesa and can barely decode anything from the Mesa site). The IR sites are intellipeaters, whenever a radio associates with that simulcast site the system will start repeating whatever talkgroup that radio belongs to, otherwise it stay's quiet.

Thanks for your help

Thanks so much for your reply... Im starting to peace all this together. So all the simulcasts basically are independent to there areas? So PPD would be exclusively Simulcast A ? So my next questions would be - agency or TGs such as the metro light rail that would travel across town. How would I efficiently program that. As of now I put all of the PRWN CCs in my talksystem. Then just tag the IDs that whole system... Thanks again for all your guidance and yoru time......

I would just put Simulcast A freq's in if you don't plan on being mobile with the scanner. This will get you the light rail and all PPD traffic, along with public works and such. I'm not sure but I don't think Mesa or Tempe are simulcast on A you have to actually monitor there simulcast to listen to them. I'm still trying to figure some things out as well since I just moved here about 2 weeks ago. I have C in one scan list, A in another and then all simulcasts except for Mesa and Tempe set up as roam in another scan list.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
For Mesa, program the Simulcast D control channels. They will occasionally wander over to C but that's rare. You can pick them up from Chandler, I live there and they come in just fine.

Tempe is on it's own 700MHz system that's linked into the PRWN. See the PRWN page in the database for details.
