The Radio Shack Mag mout scanner antenna

I was wondering if anyone has done this modification to their antenna:

I am curious if it has helped out or hurt your reception.

Yep, I've done it. No scientific tests but, to my ear, it does a better job on UHF and VHF and marginally better on 800. Low band seems to be about the same. I haven't seen any harm in doing the mod and it seems to help a little so it can't hurt to give it a try.

makes me wish i didn't throw the whips out when the magnet mount went bad. i could've used them with this 1/4 wave nmo mount that you can change the whips out on.
