The roadblocks are comming, the roadblocks are comming!

Well its official! The MHP and local LEA's have begun the holiday roadblock/checkpoints. F&W has begun the summer be safe campaign and are out in force on the water patrolling! Ross Barnett Reservoir Police, and FPD are on full alert to be ready for the weekend holiday.

This siad: Everyone please drive carefully as the roads will be BUSY, and drinkers will be out there! If your going boating, please be careful and wear your flotation devices, and NO an airplane seat cusshion strapped to you is not a LEGAL PFD! LOL!

Does Mississippi still do actual "roadblocks" when there is a major crime? We stopped doing that here in Michigan several years ago because a study concluded the whole concept was outdated. Now they just sit and watch the traffic roll by and see if they spot the suspect vehicle.

Thunderbolt, I can't speak on behalf of the south end of Mississippi, but I live one county west of where Parchman (state prison) is located. I think they are the only people that actually set up roadblocks after a prisoner escapes form the grounds.

During the holiday season, MHP and local LEO's do still set up "checkpoints" which are roadblocks where all vehicles are stopped and checked for violations. Many County SO's use these randomly on weekends. I do know for a fact that in SC the art of the checkpoint is very much alive and well! As to the BIG checkpoints, the media here and in SC broadcast them with explicit orders from the DPS to emphasize that they are there, and that they do mean business.
