I mean how do i even start i set quick keys and the thing isnt even scanning the quick keys i set for everything i want to scan. And all the ohio marcs sites are set to scan so how do i even shut but some of the sites i want to scan without going through every single 100s of sites and avoid them all out without this thing scanning through all them at once? I could really use some help programming this scanner idk if i can even bother with it is very difficult and overwhelming.

The SDS100 has a lot more features than your trusty 396XT. This video I found on Youtube will help:

ok so i read the scanner in sentinal and honestly the favorites profile isnt showing up in the software this software seems to be very difficult to even use.

Understanding Quick Keys
Selecting Quick Keys

In addition to setting quick keys (not mandatory for scanning objects) you also need to ensure the applicable service types are turned on for the channels and/or talkgroups you want to hear. Reference "Tag" column in the RRDB. Thirdly the favorites lists need to be selected to monitor

And all the ohio marcs sites are set to scan so how do i even shut but some of the sites i want to scan without going through every single 100s of sites
Consider using Proscan for programming instead of Sentinel. Proscan allows for greater selectivity via checkboxes allowing you to choose only the sites, departments & talkgroups you're interested in monitoring. No need to delete unnecessary objects. And now my unendorsed sales speel: 30 day free, fully functional trial. After the 30 days is up, $50.00 gets you two license activations & periodic updates. You already have a Radioreference premium subscription which is the only prerequisite to utilize the RR web import service. Well worth the $ IMHO

This scanner is nothing like my whistler trx 1 which is simple to program and set scan lists and sites to the scan lists it doesn't even seem you can do any of this with this scanner at all.

Yes you absolutely can, you just need a little patience as there is a bit of a learning curve involved. It may not happen overnight but once you get the basics down you'll be able to operate & program the scanner in your sleep. Plenty of resources & folks are here to lend you a helping hand.

The Easier to Read Manual and searching the forums will answer a lot of your questions

What you want to do first is read your radio into proscan to preserve anything already programmed, if any. Go into scanner type and select your model scanner.

When you plug the scanner in it asks in the scanner screen if you want serial or mass storage. Are you selecting mass storage? For programming that’s the one you want.

Turn on scanner
Connect cable to laptop to scanner
Prompt should come up to press "E" key to enter Mass Storage Mode
ok i got it dected in my laptop but now proscan wont detect it and whenever i try and write something in arc536 to the scanner it doesnt even write anything i have programmed in arc536 and the sentinal software is very confusing arc536 seems easier but nothing is getting written to the scanner.

Did you create something in either arc or proscan to be written to the scanner? How do you know it’s not writing?

How are you verifying on the scanner? Turning it on and nothing scanning or hitting menu and navigating to edit favorites list? Sorry, don’t have my scanner with me at the moment

Sentinel tip, do not plug usb cables to the scanner. Remove the SD card and write directly into that. Cables can mess up sometimes.
Under Edit, select Edit Profile, this will allow you to edit some items, look for the service types, check them all, including Custom.
Also to remember to write to scanner. be sure to check over write FL.

SDS100. The retaining holder can be easily broken & bent if fiddled with too often

You saying they did not learn their lesson with the 436, and the door is still garbage?

Cables can mess up sometimes.
Cables that come with the scanner work fine. Cheap china crap from fleabay and scamazon will fail like a 1st grader taking a 12th grade regents exam. And anything from temu is just a straight up waste of time.
