As one possible benefit, major storm hits the area, multiple casualties, one efficient way to move many of the lesser injured is by school bus which has a mutual aid frequency for command and control. Many more circumstances, where instant comms can save precious time. So agree with milf, yes.

They all have to talk.
They can't use their cell phones. "Is Bob working today?" "Did everyone get the group text?" "Just download this to your phone"

So, the choices are:
1- buy and build out their own system
2-rent time and units on a commercial system
3-do something with TACN

That's pretty much it. Once the radio costs are covered, they (I think) aren't charged per-ptt. Super flexible, dispatch-type paging and calls are simple, and no privacy or legal issues (communications may be legally subpoenable) with having to force employees to use their personal cellular phones. Call signs ensure you get security at the gate at the neighboring school, not Jim Bob.

Then, there are added benefits in disasters, for instance, being able to communicate with first responding elements in a disaster or mass casualty incident. Not worrying about cell dead spots, or losing tower connection when all the parents try to call in during said incident.

I have my issues with the system, but putting people that take care of other people's people on it isn't one of them.

Well Monroe county is on the system now except Sweetwater city I don't think our busses are and citico fire isn't because they have poor tacn signal in the northeast side of the county also poor portable coverage in the old part of town in tellico plains

I am in No way opposing p25 system. I am 100% radio fan. Minimum 1500.00 +. 75 buses, 20 schools ect.
I completely understand everyone being on 1 system. But how on earth could they take a hit. I'm sure there is lots of federal money but wouldn't cover it all.

It appears that Talkgroup 10657 “KX-RM SVFD 1” also referred to as “TACN 1” by Seymour VFD is no longer encrypted and seems like it is completely clear now. Seymour Vol. Fire Units have been using this Talkgroup and 10662 for their Brush Fire OPS the past couple of days. It seems like their TACN 2 is mostly use as a talkaround channel for their VHF Dispatch and has been for awhile now. TACN 1 seems like used as an extra TAC channel to communicate with the different dispatch centers for incidents to keep VHF clear of traffic and when they have multiple incidents going on at one time. Sevier Central 911 and Knox Fire have been heard on TACN 1. Knox Fire Dispatch has also been heard on TACN 2 in the past. Just I thought I would let everyone know in case they have 10657 locked out in their scanners! These Talkgroup also affiliate on Greentop not just on Knox Simulcast.

Looks like Morristown and Hamblen County are officially joining the TACN system by this: https://cms1files.revize.com/morristown/Administration&Council/Council_Agendas/2022 Agendas/February 15, 2022 CC.pdf . The contract for the TACN system is also attached starting on Page 95 of this document. Also, some people might want to lookout for new talkgroups appearing on the frequencies on this license: ULS License - Trunked Public Safety 700 MHz License - WRPF858 - MORRISTOWN, CITY OF .
Yes, everyone is going APX Next. Should roll out this year if everything goes to plan.

I am trying to find the following agencies' talkgroups on TACN: TN Department of Revenue - Special Investigations, TN Department of Corrections - Office of Investigations and Compliance, and TN Alcoholic Beverage Commission - Law Enforcement Section. Do any of these agencies have any talkgroups on TACN, and if so, what are some of them? I believe that I have heard TABC Special Agents on 47140 in the Chattanooga area, but I did not listen enough to verify this talkgroup. Also, I have heard some TDOC Office of Investigations and Compliance Agents on Law Mutual Aids, but I have not found some channels of their own.

I’m also wondering about the probation office. I’ve never heard them on the system and I’m wondering if they even have a TGID

In the Knoxville area the TDOC Probation and Parole Officers do not carry radios on them. They may have access to radios on TACN though. However last time I checked they do not have access to any of KPD or KCSO channels on TACN. In Nashville, I heard some of them carry APX series radios and keep their radios on Metro Police Dispatch talkgroups. Have not verified that though. Outside of Nashville, I have no idea.

Wow... Carter County will be joining TACN. Link below from Johnson City Press. Interesting, as they have been futzing about with some sort of DMR conversion project over the past few months.

Carter County Commission chooses state communications network
I was out there about a month ago. Coverage was nothing to really write home about in respect to TACN in some parts of Carter and Johnson County. 7/800 is definitely going to be challenging due to the landscape. I’d doubt they will be able to use VHF on TACN although I know it is in limited use across the state. Probably got some grant money would be my guess. Personally I think it is a good move but it is going to be a major project.

THP motorcycle unit was out there at the time it seemed like they were having trouble with their handhelds not having enough oomph but with more sites in the area it might be just fine.

On the monroe county YouTube channel it was mentioned that the county was looking into possibly adding atleast 2 more sites in the not so distant future one in the tellico area north around ballplay and one over in Sweetwater so keep your eyes on the fcc database
