These OUT-OF-STOCK notices are starting to get scary. (At least for me.)

I don't know if it's all COVID related supply chain issues, thus temporary, or if some companies are discontinuing items, however I've been to numerous websites lately and have seen flagship scanners being listed as out-of-stock, and I've seen some prices climbing on remaining accessories. In fact, I felt FORCED to buy an item this morning for a purchase that has not arrived yet, because of the old motto, "Ya nooze, ya lose". I don't normally put the cart before the horse, and I don't want to inadvertently and incorrectly alarm anyone, but it's my belief that if you wanted to pop for a high-end scanner, but were procrastinating for whatever reason, you might be better of to just buy it now, or settle in for a wait of undetermined duration.

An ethernet switch I paid $320 for a couple of years ago is now going for $500. Inflation is occurring and with little flow through the supply chain, almost everything is having issues. Even foam supply is causing shortages with furniture.

You're right again, that's another thing, if/when these items become available again, how much more will they cost? One example is the Uniden SDS100, it's out of stock now on multiple websites... EVEN UNIDENS! Amazon has a few in stock, but they are $30.00 more. What will they cost in six months? I said, "screw it" this morning, I bought an external battery charger with a spare battery this morning because I don't want to take the chance of them becoming unavailable.

Filled your tank with gas lately? As much as some of us wish we could put everything back where it was in the beginning of January 2021, the decision to give up energy Independence is going to affect everything in our lives including our disposable income that we would like to spend on things like our electronics Hobby and the cost of doing business of the people who sell it to us.

I had no choice but to cut way back on what I spend on the hobby. I put a name on every dollar and feel like I've lost a friend when I spend it LOL. I have to do without the ham equipment, scanners and accessories I would like. I always got whatever I wanted. Electronics equipment always took priority LOL.

Those days are over. And the writing is pretty much on the wall that we ain't seen nothing yet. We were told the other day by the WH that the average person has plenty of money and is not affected by inflationo_O. I kid you not.

To those folks I'm envious but I live in the real world. Not too much new electronics equipment in my future.

Supply chain issues are a real thing, but the supply chain is not completely blocked. Stuff is flowing.
But people panic and want their stuff NOW, and are willing to pay extra for instant gratification. Vendors know that and increase the prices since they know they can play off consumer fears.

Remember, it's a hobby. You aren't going to drop dead if you don't get your scanner right away. Be patient and shop around, maybe wait a few weeks and see what happens.

We've got a couple of large projects going on at work. I just purchased a few hundred VoIP phones. Prices really haven't changed in the last few years, but the shipping delays have. We weren't in a rush, so we waited. No problems getting what we needed because we were willing to wait a bit and not buy into the panic.

Nice! Where I fill up it's "3.99 9/10ths." BTW, why don't they just dispense of that archaic 9/10ths nonsense? It's 4 BUX!

Waiting is for weenies! ;)
Yeah, if I didn't care about saving $30.00 it would probably already be in my hands being stroked with affection.

It is right after Christmas and stocks may be depleted. Maybe not the best time to buy.

Or, we could start a rumor that Uniden is letting stock drop low so they can release a new model, and then start endless threads about what we wish it would do, our -DEMANDS!- of Uniden, why it'll suck and never be as good as some previous model, why they'll never get a dime of my money, why it'll be the best radio ever, etc….

Well, I bought more scanner than I need (for a reason) in my location, so even if they came out with a new and better model, it's not something I would need, want or buy. I am anxious to see "someday" how it'll work in "intermod alley" as you go south over the I-5 bridge into Oregon. A couple miles south of the border was always an interesting spot for reception BITD with my 200XLT.
