Thief Steals Tactical Rifle From Martinez CHP Lot

Man people are getting pretty brazen on these thefts from Patrol vehicles. Never used to hear of incidents like this. With all the Auto alarms available in this day and age you would think that the weapon racks could be wired in and made more tamper proof.

Somtimes though, it's not being brazen but when you have officers running from one call to another because of staffing issues and cut backs, then lack of basic security, I can see why these type of thefts are succesful in the first place.

Adding these simple devices would add $$$ that agencies don't really have.

CONTRA COSTA CO., Calif. -- Somebody broke into the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office's shooting range Wednesday night but apparently did not take any weapons, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said Thursday.


The sheriff's office became aware of the break-in at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators were still assessing the damage and loss Thursday, Lee said.


The shooting range, which is used by the sheriff's office as well as other law enforcement agencies in the area, is located at 1200 Marsh Creek Road in unincorporated Contra Costa County.

No weapons are stored there so that's why none were taken. That location is also a minimum security jail facility, pretty bold, but completely unsecured.
