Hello All.
I don't know what the thieves will do next here in SE Ohio (Gallia County).... Over the last two weeks they have apparently decided that copper was now worth "working" a little for. They have been climbing telephone poles and stealing two, three up to six hundred foot sections of upwards of 300 pair phone cable. A couple of nights ago they took a 300 pair cable that serviced 2 schools and the Gavin Power Plant in Cheshire Twp. The reason I mention this here is, last week they stole a cable that serviced the Lecta MARCS tower site here in our county !!!! Wouldn't you like to be the one that caught them????? Steve/KB8FAR.

Hopefully, next time they will grab the wrong wire and the problem will take care of itself!

Here's someone who got "caught"!
Burned Woman May Have Tampered With Electrical Box
October 4, 2005
A 41-year-old woman suffered significant burns over at least 50 percent of her body when she allegedly broke into an electrical utility box in San Jose early Tuesday morning, authorities report.
"Apparently this individual was attempting to acquire copper wire from inside our utility box and in doing so the wire came in contact with another wire, causing an electrical flash," Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokesman Jeff Smith said.

It seems to me that 300 pair phone cable wouldn't be worth it because most of the weight is in the insulation, not the 24 gauge copper. You would have to burn it off to recover the copper and get a good price.

Right before I retired two guys worked their asses off to steal a whole barrel of old fluorescent ballasts (reeking and leaking tar containing PCB's)
One guy tore his pants trying to get the barrel in their truck. Little did they know that scrap dealers won't touch those with a 10 foot pole anymore--they have to be buried in a EPA approved disposal site.

A fews years ago someone stole three spans of 600 pair phone cable from behind the Warren,MI city center during lunch time. Luckly the cable that feeds the city is underground. So it only affected the business around the area. And noone saw anything.

Captured !

SBC's security guys have located two people involved in the cable thefts. Caught them RED HANDED burning the insulation off of it. The sheriff's office arrested them....Welfare at work !!!! Just makes me sick. Our tax dollars spent to support them with welfare, they're indigent so we'll appoint their lawyer & pay for that....THEN, when they get convicted, we'll PAY to house them. I guess I'd rather pay for them IN JAIL than have them STEALING more stuff !!!!!

May I ask what proof you have they are on welfare?

I get real sick of hearing that ya know.
Gross generalzations about people on welfare is just getting to the point that being helped by the government programs setup to help americans makes you an instant piece of scum or useless thief.

Hate to tell you but I have been on welfare before. I fell ill and needed it. It kept me and my family from being homless and screwed.

So unless you know they were on welfare dont make huge genereal assumptions.

I'm happy to hear that your welfare days were temporary flyingwolf.

All too often welfare is a permanent way of life for a lot of lazy Americans.

Oh not saying I dont agree with him.

Just that he made a general statement about them being on welfare without a single cite as to where he got that info.

If he can back it up then thats fine.

And then yes they are scum.

While the ones you hear about are the ones abusing the system what about the millions that are temporarily using the service and do not abuse it.

Hell I had to go through 3 fraud cases because my case worker was unable to understand how I can work online and make money, and didnt know the difference between dominoes pizza and danatos pizza.

They actually put bench warrents out for us and had me arrested (the officer knew me so simply recited me) and when we went to court I had to sit there and explain to the judge that it IS possible for a persons home office to be located in New york and be working in Ohio.

We also had to explain the difference between Domino's Pizza (where my wife worked) and Danoto's Pizza (where they kept inisting we said she worked).

Instead of asking us (novel Idea I know) they simply started proceedings against us.

So yes it can be extremely tough to get off of welfare at times.
Especially when the case workers have 20 to 30 familys to deal with in a 40 hour work week.

One of these days we may have a system where a person can actually get help, get a job, and then get off help.

Till then, while the system is still so easy to fool, we will have the problems we currently have.

Oh and back on topic.
We had a guy try to steal our 84 Cadillac coupe deville yesterday.
I was watching him out my widow, about 9 at night, and he was walking around our coupe.
Well while walking around he see's the dors are unlocked.
He hops in, proceeds to pop the lock (all this being recorded by my security camera in my window) and tries to start the car.

Did I mention the battery is dead and the injectors arent firing and need to be replaced?

So I calmly walk out.
Shut the roon on him and wait for the cops.
They had already been called.

Its amazing how still a man will sit when being held at the end of a 3 foot Katana.
Funniest part of this whole thing.
Obviously he didnt get the car and was arrested.
I had a for sale sign in the window that clearly stated. " Doesnt run, will need to be Towed."

Guess he thought I was lying.

Re Welfare.....

Sorry Flyingwolf, BUT, that was DEFINATELY NOT a generalization. I know the TWO they caught. They ARE recipients. They ARE on drugs. They WERE STEALING to pay for their oxycodone/ocyxotin (whichever way you want to spell it) habit. They've been through the court system a dozen times in the last 10 years....They know the system INSIDE & OUT. EMS transported their buddy to the Hospital last Wednesday evening & he OFFERED the medics $$$ for the medicine on the ambulance!!!

Back in my early days with ADT I was an alarm response guard in Detroit. This was back in the early 70's when scrap yards were everywhere and bought anything. We used to catch people all the time breaking into vacant buildings, that still had an alarm system, to strip the wire and plumbing out of the building. We used to even catch people stealing scrap from one scrap yard to sell to another scrap yard. The scrap yard owners in that day were see no evil, hear no evil, and never asked where something came from.

SLWilson.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I think people like that need to be jailed for life, and forced to work for thier keep.
If they dont make enough to pay for thier food then they simply dont eat.
If the die from starvation, Oh well they shouuld have worked hard enough to make the money to eat. Thats what the rest of us have to do.

Wow I am evil.
