Hi all. Like I need another scanner...... I currently own a Pro 43, 2004 w/CE232, 2006 w/Opto456, AOR1000, GRE 600, Pro 106, BCT15x, BCD996, BCD996P2, several transceivers, and at least 8 USB SDR receivers. Oh and a TenTec RS320 in a box somewhere.

Coming from the channels/banks scanners (Pro 2020, 2004, 2006, 43 etc.) when digital trunking became the thing I got a PSR-600, then a Pro-106.
I was happy with them for quite a while, but for whatever reason, I decided to try Bearcat. Got a used 15x, then a used 996 and finally a new 996P2.
It took me quite a while to get used to DMA, I was pretty happy with GRE's object-oriented stuff. But using my bearcats I'm finally coming around.
That and Proscan being better than Win500 for my needs, I'm mostly using my 996 and 996P2. Whenever I use my 106 it's cumbersome after being used to my Unidens. Though I really like the favorites.

TLDR:
I'm thinking of getting a 325P2, Does it perform pretty much like a 996P2, Any downsides?
I'd sell my GREs but I don't sell scanners, I buy them :p

Thanks.

I own both the 325P2 and 996P2.

They are comparable in reception. VERY good!

The 325P2's advantage is its price.
The downside is the 2 battery design, but I run mine on AC.

Good luck!

I found it performed exactly like the rest of the 996's - albeit, in much smaller handheld form. I liked mine a ton.

Battery is relatively decent considering it's only 2 AA's - I just kept a bunch of extras charged and ready. Fairly easy to use USB power too if you want.

Handles simulcast as terribly as the rest of them, but, if your location is still Alberta, don't imagine it's much of an issue there :). Overall, would recommend it!

Been reading more on this radio as I am comparing it with the 436. Had a 436 awhile ago. Seems most folks are happy with the 325P2. I presume sentil doesn't work with this radio but proscan does, correct? Plus its cheaper than the 436.

Sentinel is a nope, but Freescan and ProScan work well.

They’re both good radios overall - just different styles, really. I’d happily recommend either one to anyone who doesn’t need to handle simulcast and wants something that covers every other base.

Does the 325P2 scan fairly fast? Decent on both air bands? One thing nice about the 436 is the full data base is loaded and can use zip code scanning. But, can scan the 800 mhz band on the 325P2 if needed.

my county has gone to a 700Mhz digital simulcast system. and of course the reception is great everywhere except around my house.
after having a 396T and a 396XT i really understand the radio. i just don't do quick key anything. but they all work the way i want.

My long term workhorse Uniden handheld has been the 396XT. I did purchase a 325P2 and have found it to be a very good scanner. Battery life for 2 rather than 3 is a minor issue, as AA batteries are easy to carry. The thing I really miss is the lighted keypad of the 396XT, as I like to have a scanner at the bedside. But the 325P2 does have the DMR option which is in use by local highway departments. Does simulcast ok if you are in a good location but not nearly as good as the SDS100 or unication G5. All in all it is a good scanner.

Will the 325P2 adjust stepping on its own when scanning a range, say 225 to 400 mhz? Also, the ctcss/DCS codes displays these according to the manual. Do these codes still have to be entered on a particular frequency manually when displayed? Am leaning toward this radio more I read about it.

After reading through this thread I am giving some thought to purchasing a BCD325P2 for myself so I did some research to see what some of the best pricing is currently. The following are the two best deals that I found for a total delivered price when you factor in shipping charges and any applicable sales tax:

Amazon.com (Sold by and Ships from Amazon.com) currently has a price of $364.57 with FREE shipping BUT Amazon charges sales tax to all states/localities that have a sales tax: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V91IN62

Bearcat Warehouse currently has a price of $369.99 with FREE shipping (can be selected for orders over $200 at checkout) AND they only charge sales tax to orders shipping to Maryland: Uniden BCD325P2 Phase II | Handheld Digital Police Scanner

Pretty much my thoughts and experience as well. Two vs three AA's not really an issue with me and I do miss the lighted keypad of the 396XT. I still have (and use) the 396XT along with the 325P2 and a 996P2. I keep the 325 and 996 programmed the same and both have NXDN and DMR enabled.
