Working fire in savoy illinois. 11/23/2010 @ 0317

1808 Woodfield Dr. Large 2 story mutli suite building, mutiple businesses, include

Savoy DCFS office, Wickersheimer Engineering, PREPARE inc., Marvalous massage.


Savoy, Tolono, Edge Scott, Eastern Prarie, Carroll, Champaign, Urbana, Cornbelt, Sidney, Sadorus, Ivesdale departments all responded.

Third alarm struck as first due units arrived finding heavy smoke from the west and south sides.

Fire in the second floor and in the basement, very extensive burning in the basement.

Units encountered very heavy smoke conditions upon entry and attack.

Units laddered the roof and ventilated, which improved working condidtions drastically inside.

Manpower intensive operation.

Savoy Command very good coordination of units

Units being released from the scene around 0435



Units involved:

Savoy 452, 453, 454, 461 and several command offiicers

Tolono 2451, 2454, 2459, with a full crew standing by in station

Eastern Prarie 6001, 6051, 6052

Edge Scott 6651, 6652

Champaign 152, 156, 164, 171, 110

Urbana 252

Cornbelt 2251, 2252 (standby in savoy's station)

Carroll 6152

Pesotum engine to stanby in savoy station for medicals and other alarms

Sadorus standby in station

Ivesdale standby in station

there was of course a RIT team assembled but was never neccesary, here in champaign urbana, they live by safety and dont take risks for unoccupied buildings.
We also have a very good relationships with utilities so they respond fast and help the whole operation to be safe.

There was no one in the building at 0317 as it is a business plaza, plus no firefighters even had to go to rehab, they had enough man power to rotate in and out during the whole operation.
