So, I've been looking for a 2M HT / VHF P25 scanner for a while. I came across one of these in the classifieds a while back & made a trade for it. This radio does not have either PI or PII trunking option, just conventional P25 & analog. I want to monitor a Motorola statewide utility VHF P25 system (NYSEG). 38 sites statewide & not very busy, unless there is a weather event. Loaded all the voice channels & ACC. I have an R30 set up the same way. This small HT works great & has a 3200 mAh Li-ion battery that lasts forever. On my outdoor antenna, a DPD Omni-X, it hears more sites than ANY of my Unidens, including my SDS100.
Another good thing about this is that it doesn't violate the antiquated section 397 of the NYS VTL (Vehicle & traffic law). Has good audio, 5W out, easily fits a T-shirt pocket, cheap SW & uses a standard USB cable for programming. Here it is side by side with my ICOM R30.
