This indeed is an odd question, but it's for a friend (concerning el-cheapo scanners).

Did you read the post?.... show me where this $100 price tag was "clearly stated".
I did go back and read all of the posts, I always do read the first post of a poster. I could have sworn he said $100. If you make a change in a post within a short period of time it doesn't get recorded as being changed, maybe that happened, I swear I saw that, or it could be that my senility and cognitive decline is progressing faster than I thought, but I could swear I saw $100.

Can't prove it, I don't see it now. I noticed that your post were particularly combative and rude. Hey that's nothing, I just ignore it when I see someone kike you, I've never actually officially ignored somebody on this site in my 20 years here, on another account also. You can attack anybody you want tough guy LOL.

I could have sworn I saw $100 limit on the first post but obviously I'm wrong. You're right. Feel-good?.

As I say I don't ever officially ignore anybody but I welcome you to ignore me. What I do, is remember you for who you are... are you hurt? Push the report button and cry like a baby and I'll take the rip.

If not, you have a good day... Bob.

This is for @Omega-TI (we know his old friend has no computer)

The differences between the 75XLT and the 125AT can be seen here in these two tables (if that helps with info and decision)

Scan75 User Manual (nick-bailey.co.uk) and Scan125 Control Program User Manual (nick-bailey.co.uk)

You will see that the Uniden SR30C (not yet mentioned) is a slightly enhanced BC75XLT

With the BC125AT you the 225MHz - 380MHz range. I personally have no idea what is in/on the 225MHz - 380MHz at your location.

Obviously for me too if you see post 22. I do remember responding to the original posters first post right after him writing it and I hope to hear that he changed it which would not record the change LOL.

I think for his purposes, << THIS SCANNER >> on the table next to his recliner would best suit his needs. Seriously though, I doubt he'd fill up the first bank! :)

Anyone here know if it receives well?

No Alpha tag display, Alarm clock does have a snooze alarm however.

Also paying too much. $99.99 at Bearcat warehouse In stock. $108 for BC125AT, a lot more bang for your buck if your friend really wants to go this cheap...

Also I wanted to add... on that dust up on post #21 where I was sure that I read a $100 limit... I read post #1 seconds after you wrote it and it did include the $100 limit as confirmed by 2 people, one on personal message and one on private email.

When you make an edit immediately it doesn't always register as having been changed.

I don't care about the rude poster who challenged me, I'm just glad that I'm not losing my mind as badly as I thought I was. That was kind of scary:p.

Alphanumeric is very helpful for someone new to the hobby. It may take some a while before they learn to recognize what they're hearing. I too own the BC125AT and it is easy to use. What I also like about the 125AT is its ability to not only be programmed, but powered via USB or batteries. Anyways, Nick's SCAN125 software is what I use for programming and control. It is also very easy to use.

Totally agree! Alphanumeric display is hog heaven compared to frequency only!
My major gripe with the 125-AT is that bank names can't be programmed. This isn't a big deal for beginner users, but it's really convenient to have the banks named when you have a complex scanner setup.

The 125-AT is an excellent entry level scanner (within its design parameters).

I too miss bank naming on the 125 scanner but some software will support bank naming for data management and editing purposes. Scan125 will also give mouse over pop-ups for bank selection check boxes.

The old man does not even have a computer in his house, and has never had one. He's so lo-tech he only has a landline phone. I've been researching frequencies other than what he's stated he's interested in, and have only found a few so, I'll probably end up driving the 20 miles over to his place to program it for him. It's too bad he demands "NEW", because something like the Bearcat 220 would be perfect for him.

A bearcat 220 LOL. That old vintage radio was actually made by The Electra Company in Cumberland Indiana LOL before Uniden bought them out in 1983. I'm sure it would be very hard to find one that works well being that old. I think you can find them for parts for about 25 bucks but I would not recommend that radio LOL. I had a Electra bearcat 210 that I got in the late 70s and that stopped working after about 20 years.

You are absolutely right though, he could definitely get a good condition used radio that would provide him with so much more then he is going to end up getting.

Yeah, while he does not need 800Mhz, even a BC-800XLT would work for him, but even if he would accept used, I'd NEVER give up mine. Mine still looks and works like brand new. I love that radio!

Yep another vintage radio from the early 80s that are very hard to find in working order. It's good that you have one like new and I would not sell that but for the most part, the display is dimmned or gone. Most of them have lost all of their sensitivity. I owned one but could never figure out the logic of having an 800 MHz radio when 800 MHz systems were popping up but... they were trunked lol. The radio wasn't so it was worthless on 800 MHz. Also it's hard to remember but I'm pretty sure that was not Alpha numerical. If you were going to get a used radio for this gentleman I would try to look at one that's at least three decades newer :D

I'm sure you know his area in terms of what is available for him to listen to. Just how many frequencies will he have to monitor?

The pickings are slim in his neck of the woods. Only about 7 or 8 with any amount of traffic of what he wants to monitor. I could probably push it to about 15 if I included rarely used frequencies of the same genre. Heck, with everything turned on at my place, I only average 50-54 individual hits a day. The logging feature is a godsend.

... and the winner is!

I recommended the 125 to him, with the 75 as a backup. I explained the pro and cons with an emphasis on the 125's display on the active channel readout. I monitored and logged all the local frequencies for a week with my SDS100 and referred to the traffic of which he was interested in, the most hits, and signal quality. Every single candidate frequency of interest to him was of the conventional analog variety. In the end he went with @rhodester 's <<Walmart recommendation>>. The $80.00 bill turned him on and he said, and I quote, "I don't need no stinking display, I'm just gonna listen." Old farts have a unique way of phrasing things, don't ya think?

Thanks everyone for your valuable input!
