It would be much more helpful if you said something about what model you were using, where you were (city/state would do), and what problems you are having.

There are numerous very knowledgable folks here that can help; don't give up quite so quickly.

Don't be blaming your problems on the scanner. This is not a hobby that you can just jump into and expect to know everything. Take your time, read and ask questions.

If you'd post what model number you have, I'm sure there are tons of people here that would help you program it. My experience with the RS associates has been dismal at best, so I don't trust the guy behind the counter just trying to make a sale. S/he may have said it was easy to program because s/he has done it 100's of times before. Don't forget to RTFM, and ask here if you have any questions.

:arrow: Which model did you buy? What frequencies do you wanna program?
In all fariness, I one time had a EDACS problem with my Pro-92B.
I went to Radio Shack and they told me what to do and it worked.
The problem was how to program an EDACS TRS by HAND and NOT by computer. Beleive it or NOT the methods are different.

:arrow: Well to make all long story short, I have 3 EDACS TRSs within
reception range of my Pro-92B. Guess what? No more problems.

:arrow: Also are you trying to program an EDACS TRS or LTRS TRS?
If that is the case then remember LCNs are important when concerning EDACS but NOT LTR when programming Radio Shack Scanners. Well @ least with the 92B LTR LCNs are NOT important. However they are important when programming Bearcat Scanners.

I hate to say it, but the answer to his questions and more all reside within the pages of the manual that came in the box. :roll: All he needs to do is sit down and take the time to read it.

But see, that's the scanner's fault, or so he implies in his post. Sigh.

Depending on what scanner you have, a copy of the appropriate software, and a membership in this website is a great/easy way to program a scanner!

I have a Pro 97, and downloaded the GREAT Win97 software, which I will be buying when it's available, and donated to this website, so I can web import the freqs! Soooo easy!

There's the problem - "read" is a "4-letter word" to some people.

In defense of Ed, I'm also having trouble programming my 2051 and I've read the owners guide over and over. I have been able to get an EDACS system up and running (Riverside County, CA). I'm able to hear traffic on both ID scan and ID search modes.

I have been trying to get the San Bernardino County, CA 06/07 System (Valley Areas) up and running with no luck. I have pulled my freqs and IDs from RR.

Here's my settings:
Type: E2-800
Freqs: 868.1625, 868.3375, 868.3875, 868.6125 (Control Code Only Mode)
CC Only Plan: PL1
No IDs locked out.
ID lists 1 thru 5 enabled (those are the only one's I used)

When I try and do an ID Scan the radio scans the freqs like it would if the bank was set up for conventional scanning. Hitting the search button won't change the display from "BANK" to "LIST". It works fine in Bank 1, my EDACS system.

I'm thinking the radio is not recognizing my ID list. I entered the DEC numbers I want to hear from the talkgroup list. Is that the correct number to enter?

Any ideas?

Richard,

Here's the difference between your post and Ed's: You stated the problem clearly and succinctly, and gave us all the information you could to help us help you. This is much better than "This thing stinks, I'm gonna go get a real scanner". Plus it's obvious that Ed needs to understand what the difference is between a talkgroup and a frequency. That most certainly IS in the manual of ANY trunking scanner and is very easy to find and read.

In regard to your problem, I don't think it's the wrong plan or wrong TGID's - I don't think it's getting that far. Sounds to me like it's hunting for a control channel and not finding one.

Do this: turn your squelch all the way down, then back up just enough to stop the "white noise" sound. Then, manually step thru each channel in that bank and see if you hear the control channel data coming thru the speaker - you'll know it when you hit it, you can't miss it. Sounds like a diesel truck at idle. :wink: If you scroll thru all the channels and don't hear one then you'll need to find out what frequency you're missing. Double check what you've entered against the RR database and google "San Bernardino scanner frequencies" as well to see what other sites are listing for your area. Enter any missing freq's and try again.

If you DO hear one, make sure the frequencies you've programmed are set up as trunked frequencies. I don't have a 2051 myself so you'll need to refer to the manual for the steps.

Let us know if that fixed it.

For a MOTO system, make sure that your frequencies are set to MOTO, plus for MOTO there is a Hex T.G. and a DEC T.G. Value. I know that my Scanner takes DEC Values only

For EDACS their are AFS, DEC, & Hex T.G. Values

Also MOTO and EDCAS can do MESSAGE or TRANSMISSION TRUNKING
TRANSMISSION = NO Hang Time
MESSAGE = Hang Time
