Thought i would be able to contact a seller

Came across these forums while researching a radio i am interested in purchasing, so I joined thinking that I would be able to message the seller of an item on here but turns out I need to create an unknown number of posts before I am given permission to contact another member?

I appreciate what it is that you are attempting to accomplish to deter the spam postings, but now I feel that I need to create several false (read as spam) posts just to hope for a faceless moderator to unlock my ability to message another user that is selling an item i have an interest in.

I agree with your other rules but this one is confusing to me. I sure bet that other guy would like to make a sale. I would probably be his seller but unfortunately I can't contact the person!

Those are the rules, and they've worked very well for many years. It is unfortunate that you feel you need to post "spam" in your words to reach the point you can contact someone. Perhaps a better way of handling it would have been to mention the seller in your first post above, rather than leaving him anonymous, and then he could have reached out to you.

I really doubt complaining, in your very first post, about a policy that works for the overwhelming number of members will get you the changes you seek for yourself. But, who knows.

Try tagging the user using the @username (like I did above) and that should get their attention. It won't let you private message them, but it will put you in contact with them on the forum and maybe you can find another way to establish contact.

Unfortunately, some sellers don't allow contact by email so they can't be contacted by newcomers such as yourself. Not much we can do about that.

There is a button to click that says contact member, when I click it I am told I am not able to do this

When one first creates a new account on these forums your posts are set for moderation. This means your posts are put in a queue that forum moderators review on a regular basis and approve as needed. Yea , I read that, my original intention wasn't to make any posts, but to contact a member with an item for sale. Hopefully all this back and forth will get my account unlocked and soon I will be able to make contact.... hopefully before someone else makes the purchase I intend to.

I stand behind that I find it silly that the forums require new users to create posts to unlock their accounts just to contact a user with an item for sale... this makes me think twice before attempting to post an item for sale when a potential buyer isn't able to contact me as a seller. Also this silly rule ultimately ends up with a thread just like this that is completely pointless other than for the moderators to learn that I am not a bot.
