Was listening Satuday night 4/16 when THP Cookeville started a pursuit of a carjacking suspect out of Knox County westbound I 40. I am able to monitor THP Cookeville here in Cleveland off the Hinch Mtn site. Troopers were unable to stop the suspect and the pursuit continued westbound with the troopers calling out exits and mile markers...I pulled out my Rand McNally atlas and tracked their movement. As the pursuit continued further westbound I figured THP Nashville would be involved which they eventually were. At mile marker 258 Gordonsville exit dispatch advised all THP Cookeville units on the pursuit to switch to "pursuit channel 1" to coordinate with THP Nashville units and with that I was left hanging on the eventual outcome.
My question: I assume dispatchers can patch different districts together on the fly to one talkgroup. Would this be one of the THP operations talkgroups (Nashville or Cookeville) or one of the systemwide law enforcement mutual aid talkgroups? I am assuming there are no dedicated pursuit talkgroups assigned on TACN as I see none in the database. And would the Cookeville units be added to affiliate with Nashville towers or Nashville units with Cookeville towers? I realize TACN has many options, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there is a standard procedure (SOP) to accomplish this or if it is up to the dispatcher on how it is pulled together.
Thanks in advance for any info or comments!
