ok, on my dad's truck, he bought a through glass dual band antenna, which i see is starting to come loose at the top, i want to fix it, but want to make sure it doesn't mess up, should i try to put something in the loose part and try to seal it back, or remove the whole thing and put something back on it to make it stick and what?

also, he had the radioshack through glass antenna, but it had already been taken off his old car when he sold it, we installed that to the window with super super glue and it worked great, but either it was the cheap brand, or extreme southern heat was to strong for it, and both the inside and outside parts fell off the window after about 2 weeks...

looking for possible fixes, thanks!

Larsen Radiall and Antenna Specialist offer a replacement kit which includes new tape. Anything other may impede its performance.

I had the same problem it started to come loose from the glass at the top. I took a small tube of silicone and a piece of tape used the tape to hold it in place and ran a small bead of silicone around it and it has been fine ever since. Good scannin...hoser147

be careful with that rearview mirror glue, especially when it comes time for it to be removed when u go to take it off..You may get more than just a handfull of antenna...lol..
I usually refer my customers to consult their local radio installer shop for the tape on those antennas....

There is the ghetto way (rearview mirror glue) and the correct way (glass mount re-install kit). Do it the correct way.

Larsen and Antenna Specialists both offer re-mount kits.

In that case I would just buy a good commercial antenna and drill a big ol' hole in the roof and be done with it. It'll last 10-15 years if put on correctly and work better to boot.

Drive 'em till they die..Yup!!!

And drill right through the roof...Yup, did that too!!!....Even went with the Stainless Steel ball on the rear quarter for HF...lol

All kidding aside guys, As an auto glass technician for 8 years, I've had people come into my work telling me that they want to sell or trade in their vehicles & if I can get their old cell phone antenna off that they super-glued on...They're either 'stuck with it' or order a new piece of glass...Just remember NOT to use heat from a torch, etc to remove these from glass, laminated glass(windshields) may bubble or crack & tempered glass may explode....

Glass mount antenna - how to remove it?

I'm dis-enchanted with my RS glass mount antenna and want to take it off, all off.

Of course, I've lost the directions that came with it, which as I remember did have removal instructions.

Will someone tell me how to proceed?

Finger nail polish remover (the stuff with acetone) and a putty knife. Worked for me.

The resident glass tech may have a better method, though.

Also, I'll have to agree with using the Larsen remount kit. It is less than $10 at a radio shop, and it is the correct way to do it.
