Hey all, I just installed a small mobile radio for ham use and installed a TRAM 1191 through-glass antenna on my car. Full disclaimer, I understood going in that through-glass is one step above useless. But my roof is full glass and I haven’t found a way to run the wire outside the car yet. I also have garage clearance issues. Anyway, I installed this TRAM dual band and it’s really
Impressed me so far. Much better then I was expecting, and FAR better then just having a handheld in the car. So…. Do I make the $200 leap and upgrade my antenna to the Larsen through-glass? Supposed to be the best in the business, but not sure it’s worth the upgrade. It looks identical to the TRAM I have. Anyone have experience with either? Or other antenna solutions? Small SUV with glass roof and clearance issues…. Thanks!

It's been several years since I played with one. Had no trouble bringing up repeaters with full quieting with a 50 watt dual band, we were on two meters. I don't know how long the whip is on your Team, but I remember the Larsen being fairly long. You might want to research that further. Came with a nice install kit.

Thanks, I think the two antennas are the same size, similar install kit, etc. except the TRAM is like $40 and the Larsen is almost $200. I can’t really figure out the difference but people say the Larsen is the best by far.
