OK people, it's that magical time of year when the Louisville airwaves come alive with the sounds (err, rather radio traffic) of Derby. First up is Thunder so let's get those frequency lists going.
Hi ScanMan. I am returning for the 2nd time to Thunder. Went last year and now I'm hooked! Question: It appears that Louisville is using the new P-25 digital system now. Is that correct? If so, should I include any of the old VHF/UHF stuff as well? Presently, I have them in the radio, so it won't be a problem. I just want to know what to monitor.
BTW, we are coming from the Greater Cincinnati area (Covington, KY).
Thanks,
Rod Villari

Here are the frequencies that someone posted last year for the air show:
0132.3200 AIR BOSS
0142.3500 KYARI NG
0123.1500 LIMA LIMA
0123.4250 LIMA LIMA
0123.5000 LIMA LIMA
0132.9500 HERITAGE FLITE
0268.1000 KYAIR NG
0306.2000 ????????
0123.1750 ????????
0381.8000 ????????
0132.3125 ????????
0327.0000 ????????
0381.6500 ????????
0271.2000 ????????
0275.8000 ????????
Here are the frequencies that I reported last year. I know that some are not valid.
132.325 Airboss (extremely activie)
123.450 Banner carrying aircraft
123.575 Lima-Lima Air to Air frequency
376.025 Raptor Control (F-22)
45.75 Apache Helicopters (CT showed 151.9)
347.50 Chinook Helicopters
165.9625 Unknown mentioned "Command Post"
149.825 Clear and encrypted P-25 (KYANG?)
149.750 P-25 seemed to be "Traffic Control" (I think these were the
guys that assisted police with directing traffic, but I could be wrong)
157.10 River Traffic Law Enforcement and Coast Guard
157.15 Similar to above
I would leave them in... there is some patching still going on... hard telling how many P25 radios will be in service... my guess this will be a full-service test for the new system.
Fire is not on the new system yet. Also do you have the new FD paging frequency?
And update the State P25 channels, a many new ones have been mapped since last year.
I do not have the new FD paging frequency. I will place the State P25 channels into one of my banks.
Do you guys that are interested in scanning have a particular 2-meter repeater or any other means of communicating to one another during the show? I had a fellow ham coming with me, but he has family issues that will prevent this. It looks like me and my twelve year old daughter again. She is not much help with my radio issues;-)

Brock Persons KK4CZ has a repeater located in downtown by the waterfront that covers almost all of Louisville, I'll email him and ask If he would allow an informal Thunder net. If he says yes I'll post the freq.
Just heard back from Brock...
"Yea no problem. The 441.350 + 5 Meg. - 67pl and the 145.410 - 600 Khz. - 151.4pl are tied together and are both located downtown.
Brock"
WE HAVE OUR THUNDERPEATER!!!
