Live in the right-hand mountains. Visiting the right-hand coast next summer. Need to upgrade. Which handheld gives the best value? Please be as objective as you can. Remember, there's a difference between telling me something that gives me something to think about, and telling me something to scratch my head about. Thanks kindly.

SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POSTS. PLEASE DELETE THE POST THIS ONE.

As I look at the map of the US, the east coast is to my right, and the Rocky Mountains are to my left. So much for geography. Now, if you are looking for the best bang for your buck in a scanner, you need to isolate the options that you want and what you'd like to use it for (what do you want to listen to?).
What you asked is like asking what car is the best value. Need more info.

Good grief.

So much for humor.

I live in Western North Carolina. I'm going to the NC coast. I want to listen to fire departments.

Ok for the humor, most of us can not spell our own names!

Going to NC and you want to listen in on the fire fighters er? Look in the RR database for what town/city you are going to and locate those frequencies posted. Remember, are they digital, analog, or encrypted, etc. Then on that information purchase the scanner that will meet your needs. Just remember, if it's encrypted, you're out of luck. There's more to add to your specifics, but I'll let the more knowledgeable give you those details.

Your best friends should be the folks on the NC Forum. Unless you're coming to VA, then we can help.

Are you going to the Outer Banks? Pretty quiet down there except for traffic stops and collisions between lost or distracted tourists in the summer. Part of its appeal.
