Time to upgrade maybe

I dunno I've been messing around with SDRTrunk and if you mainly sit in one spot to listen... for under 50 bucks you could be up and running listening..

Currently have a Uniden 397T. Still works but would like to listen to towns I no longer seem to pick up.
I know the State police requires a different scanner.
Not sure about other towns
Currently in East Haven, CT. Would like to listen to Branford, CT and West Haven, CT.
Previously someone recommended uniden bcd325p2 scanner. Is that still my best choice?

to answer the basics of your question, a standard digital scanner will suffice. Branford, and East Haven use p25 digital ( both operate in the clear but have encryption capability for their pd and fire, West Haven PD is encrypted fulltime once you get into the State System or the towns utilizing it, you would need a phase 2 scanner. Do you have a 396T?

I have 2 of Pat's Odyssey boxes, basically 4 x SDR-RTL dongles bridged, in a metal enclosure with SMA antenna mount works awesome on CLMRN
