I just got an SDS100, and on top of that I'm new to this here "fancy scanning" stuff like trunking, digital, etc. With the manual and some patience I have pretty much figured out the settings and got things working well, but I'm having trouble getting the frequencies for Tinker AFB (Oklahoma) to scan. I appended their frequencies to my OKC list using sentinel, and they're in the radio but I don't see the system and frequencies being scanned. I set them in Sentinel to monitor, I have all the service types selected to "on," and nothing is being avoided. If I stop the scanner in Channel mode I can scroll through every other frequency, service, and favorites list (incl. those avoided) but the Tinker AFB freqs don't show up.

The attached graphic shows where I went in Sentinel (its under Oklahoma County in Oklahoma), and the link above goes to the equivalent RR page.

Based on what I've shown and written, can anyone see somet hing I may need to check or that I've missed? Again, I'm brand new to this high level of a scanner, so I may likely be missing something.

Thanks for your time.

I believe it’s a trunked system you want. Appending them into the scanner as a conventional frequency won’t work. You have to click on tinker, look for the site or sites they use if you are doing the automatic programming.

I'd recommend that you create a separate Favorites List for Tinker.

Many of the talkgrounds for Tinker AFB appear to be fully or partial encrypted so you may not be able to listen to those.

Also make sure that you have the Military service type enabled on your scanner.

Good luck!!

I've tried the first suggestion above with no luck, and Military is enabled. Ands it's not that I just can't hear, them, it's that the scanner doesn't even show it's scanning them. That's what is so puzzling. I'm sure I'll finally stumble upon the answer. Then I'll have to remember what I did to get it to work! :D

If you appended the Tinker related talkgroups from the main database, Sentinel would have also appended every site on the system, including ones in other areas of no interest to you.

Did you then delete the sites, but then manually add back the site frequencies related to Tinker? If you did it that way, did you include all the information for Tinker's site, including location? If you manually added, but did not include location data, are you using location control on your Favorites list? If so, and if you did not include the location details, then the scanner will treat Tinker's site as 'out of range'. (Zero degrees (or blank) for latitude and longitude is a location off the coast of Africa, so the scanner would ignore it.)

I was right. I stumbled into it. In the US Air Force (157) list I added everything. I don't care about scanning F.E. Warren AFB in Wyoming but everything is in there. Oddly in the Oklahoma County US Air Force (157) list Tinker is the only one listed as a department, the other AFBs are "sites". For Eglin AFB that same list has the other bases as "departments."

Anyway, I loaded them all and set everyone else to "Avoid." I guess when I travel they'll be ready to go by un-avoiding them.

I keep learning. :D

I saw this after I posted my last reply. As you'll see there, I added everything then set most to avoid. It solved the problem, even if inelegantly! :-D
