If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all,
I got a G4/5 for two tone paging on a conventional frequency. Currently I have it set to trip on low squelch and not using a PL. Sometimes I'll be in the same location and I'll lose the signal while other times I'll receive a strong signal. Anyone have any tips on how to maximize the pager receiving capabilities.
Thanks

If you're having these problems with reception in the 700 - 800 MHz range, you might consider buying a BNC antenna adapter from Jon Wienke and trying out some other antennas.

Keep in mind that the G5 uses an internal antenna for its VHF/UHF reception (depending on the model you bought) and its external antenna for 700 - 800 MHz reception. That means you only have the option to experiment with other antennas in the 700 - 800 MHz range.

Hope this helps!

With that said does the g5 actually offer a option for both 700 and vhf for outer antenna or only internal on vhf?

7/800, VHF or UHF ? The external antenna on a G5 is 7/800. Internal loop antenna is either VHF or UHF depending on model. So depending on your conventional paging frequency (which I'm assuming is V or U) my answer is your location in proximity to the transmitter.

Only internal on VHF. Otherwise look at the G2 or G3.
