Much ado about nothing. Remember, President Obama promised TRANSPARENCY in government. I really don't expect to ever see the day when government takes over the airwaves and prohibits law abiding scanner enthusiasts from montoring the actions of the police or government. Do you really think we are moving to a socialistic police state?

That's not at all what this article was about.

How does a promise of "TRANSPARENCY in government" from the White House have anything at all to do with decisions that are being made on a county level?

And the article itself wasn't even worth reading. It makes no real mention of an upgrade rendering the system unmonitorable except for a few references to rebanding; it only pines about how some people with older scanners may not be able to listen anymore, certainly not a situation unique to Brevard County(or any state in the Union for that matter). Then the article manages to throw in the obligatory conspiracy theory that an unmonitored police force will degenerate quickly into criminals themselves(as if a few daring citizen crusaders with scanners is enough to stop any kind of police corruption, very little of which involves use of a radio). Hack-tackular is the word I would use to describe it.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
Brevard doesn't have the money to even consider encrypting the whole system. Nor is there any serious interest in doing so.

Palm Bay does NOT have encrypted talkgroups, either. They use ProVoice on one or two specific talkgroups, and are readily monitored if you have ProVoice-enabled radios.

None of the agencies HAVE the money to even put in TRS's, so they raise taxes, lobby for SPLOTS or cut jobs so they can pay for them.

I drove down for two shuttle launches and parked in the McDonalds lot.
The hiway patrol being encrypted just made me work harder to find things.
Nice to hear the actual KSC stuff working on the 106!!!
