If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was in the process of programming several TK-2170 radio's. One of the radios kept saying " Check all connection and communication ports" I kept hitting retry and it finally was able to read the radio. Once I tried to write the program back to the radio it would not write the program back to the radio and was saying "unprog" on the front display. I am using KPG-101D. Out of 6 radios this was the only one that had this issue. Any suggestions on what to do?

I have seen some portables where the side connections are either dirty or have an intermittent connection that makes programming a hit or miss issue. When I find a radio like this, I apply some pressure to the cable connector in different directions until I get the software to communicate.

Not saying this is your problem, but it would be the first thing I try before going ballistic with the issue.

I have tried cleaning all the connections. It was programmed before . I read the radio and had issues reading the radio but it eventually was able to read it. Then it would not write back to the radio and it seems to have lose all of its programming. All it says on the front dispaly in "Unprog" When I try to write the program to the radio it says "AM" in the front display and " Check all connection and communication ports" on my computer screen. I was programming all the radios with the same program so it was no different than the other 6 radios except this one has lost it programming

Once in a while a Kenwood radio refuses to read or write and I believe it it something with the radios serial line. Mostly though, on portables with the two prong mic jack, it is either dirty, broken/bent inside the jack, or the radio slammed with a speaker mic plugged in and breaking a solder for the jack and you are not getting a reliable connection to program.
