i have a tk-2180 and the 2 tone decode only reads moto 1+1 quick call 2, 1 sec/3 sec tones. well our dispatch uses those for a couple stations but also uses .4sec/.8sec and my radio wont decode those. Anyone got any ideas or maybe point me in the right direction.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

0.5s and 1s is as short as those radios will go. You can try it, but not sure if it's going to work. Make sure you are not scanning, as it'll often miss parts of the first tone.
It's one of the issues when an agency picks a brand like that. Motorola is notorious for locking users into their brand. Getting them to change would probably be difficult, but it would let you use different brand radios, which could be a cost savings.

Mike is correct on the .5, on some you can get it down to .46 but that will still not work with the .4/.8. I know on the NX-5x00 radios it is the same but we have had a data file edited by Kenwood that allow the .4/.8. You might ask your KW dealer and have them inquire with Kenwood. I just saw you are in Salem, is that OR?

YES SALEM OREGON, sorry for the all caps lol, and i will look into this because we have dept issued kenwood tk-2180 that decodes it. i just purchased a personal so i can use it for ham and other things.
